It started on 9th jan.
He had antibiotic and antinflamaty injections and it cleared up

The next week it was back so he had steroid injection and was given steroid tablets and calming tablets
Within 2 days he was back at vets as he was in loads of pain, with vet squeezing bladder he did a wee and things started to be normal again.

Then this week he is back to not being able to wee again !!!

I have asked about stones and was told he doesnt have them.
I have asked about crystals and vet says the food will get rid of them if there are any.

I might speak to another vet, however i do trust my vet 100% though

If my vet doesnt mention what i have in mind i ask them and they oblige, within reason of course

If Lola suffers again they want to scan and x ray her. I know people who have been to consult after consult and got nowhere (apart from in the red

) because the vet is of the give them a jab and see how they go persuasion, imo a reoccuring problem needs more serious things to be ruled out.
A urine test would take them no time at all.
How long ago did he start having a problem, i remember several posts about him.

You could always phone and speak to a different vet and see what they think. Stress is the easy assumption because you have a big furry family.

Its good hes not crying out, probably the metacam helping there

Reoccurring bouts of cystitis at least warrants a urine sample being checked out.

Glucosamine comes in different forms so an arthritis supplement wont neccessarily help a bladder replace its missing GAGS.

I just dont know what to do then MM
Freddy is STILL going to litter trays with just a drip coming out although he doesnt seem to be getting himself in a state like last week and isnt crting out in pain and licking himself
He has been on the metacam since Friday and i'm using a feliway plug in

Urinary food alters the ph of the urine so by acidfying your other cats urine they are at risk of getting stones themselves! Awkward but its just him that needs it.
I dont see why he would change his diet if hes so sure its just cystitis?!

I wouldnt agree that he could feel stones, my vet certainly wouldnt claim to be able to tell just by palpatating.

Cystaid is a glucosamine based thingy (sorry, brain not working well at the moment), so glucosamine probably is in the food, it is in quite a lot of senior dry foods too for the arthristis aspect. You can get it without a prescription, you just have to buy 250 tablets!! And they only need one a day. Fingers crossed it works for him - Metacam has been licenced for cats for nearly a year now.

I said to vet that a few people had mentioned it and he says it is in the RC Urinary food (i cant see it listed but if he says it is !!) Although he did say that Cystaid can go under many different names (He did say some ut didnt take it in lol)

Having 11 cats i will have to feed them all the same diet, going to work out exspensive but VekUk seems cheaper than vets !!!!!

Awww, glad he's not blocked anyway, how frustrating though, not being able to get to the bottom of the cytitis. Has your vet said anythign about trying Cystaid? don't think you need prescription for it anyway.

Lexy's on the RC Urinary Michelle and she finally likes it, but took a bit. If he's not keen on dry keep him on the dry. They tend to like the chicken more than beef flavour (Lexy won't touch beef flavour). Being male he should keep to mostly wet if you can, so it helps him get rid of water quicker.

SO..........Vet says it is still Cystitis

PLAN OF ACTION
changing to RC Urinary food
On Matacam (a cat one now licenced at long last !!!)
Carry on with the Feliway
and see how it goes !!!

I asked about crystals and the vet said that the RC food would clear up any crystals if there were any but he still doesnt think that is the problem anyway !

I am totally exhausted with all this, fingers crossed this works x

As MM said, the vet can take a sample using a needle into the bladder, I would also think ultrasound might be a good idea too because that would show up bigger stones as well, in case its oxalate not struvite - if it is stones/crystals at all.

Its easy for them to just take a sample with a needle

They can just take a sample, only cost me a tenner for them to run basic tests on it

They can have clear urine even tho they have stones in the bladder so i personally would request an xray.

You can also ask for his urine sample to be sent off and be cultured to see if he does need ABs, not many cases of cystitis are actually caused by bacteria, only 2% or somthing like that

I hope hes ok?

with bluto the vet got a sample but it was 11 pm on a saturday night and I honestly can't remember if he squeezed him or not I would definately ask if they think it could be struvite stones, once he was on his presciption diet we didn't ever have another flare up

One of my mums cats had cystitus (sp) and was back and forth to the tray with only little coming out, a course of anti-b's sorted it out.

No they didnt Dawn and as he isnt actually doing a wee i cant get a sample either.

Do they show up on a Xray ?
