Thats true - its the food that cause my Ben to have his bladder blockage, and I've heard of others that have had urinary tract probs that have been fed Iams too.

Thats good you got her on some wet food Mark. You may find Burns works ok for her as many people list the downside to it as weightloss.

As to helping numerous illnesses, i think you could say that about any food that has minimal crap in it. Mr Burns got in to trouble for claiming too many things on his website...

Iams made Eukanuba last I heard.

My vet sells only Royal Canin,in fact he educated me about Iams.

I will have to check the fat content. I have finally got her eating some wet so maybe with a good quality dry food, that will be enough to control her weight.

Burns only do 2 cat foods, chicken and fish, if you get their literature, it can help with lots of things, but I Was very dubious about one dry food that can help with numerous illnesses, and it has a very high grain content, about 40%, although the meat content is similar.

I had a shock the other day. I had a free sample of Burns from my local garden centre. I thought I would try Willow with it as Kylie has refused every brand I have tried. I was quite surprised to see Kylie chowing down on it later

- I will find out if they do a low fat one as I have one bag of Hill's r/d left but I read some negative things about very high fibre diets for cats (also it makes her poos lethal

) - Would be great if I can get her on Burns

Good point BC, I personally still feed JWB cos the cats like it - bought them PAH which has similar ingredietns, and had to buy some JWB despite having 12kg of biscuits in teh house!! if anyone near me wants 4kg of senior PAH, feel free to pm me!!

you also have to ask yourself, from time to time, on what basis the 'clean' companies devise their menus. Surely they are also developed either from tried and true formulae (that at some stage were tested on animals, whether or not by that particular company) or they are buying the results of those tests from the companies doing the testing. Mypoint being, where do you draw the line. Personally my line is whatever is best for my pet.

No idea who makes Eukanaba Susanne, never looked into it. On Vet UK, there are only 4 companies who do certain diets for health conditions, Purina is the other, so not really a great deal of choice for ethics if you have to feed a prescription diet for a health condition!!

The point is, I have been into loads of vets and never see it so where do they gets their "facts" from?

I'm sure these companies know how to massage figures

Eukanuba do prescription diets - arent' they produced by Iams?

My vets don't stock anything as standard but they can order in anything. So I guess they'd provide Iams if it was asked for, but they don't advertise that they sell it. They don't have any display or advertising in the waiting room.

With RC and JWB its abit like Loreal buying out the Bodyshop, some see it as a seperate brand and others see it as total profits in the bad guys pocket. The trouble is most supermarket products are owned by the likes of P&G, Nestle, Colgate Palmolive and Mars who all fund invasive and cruel animal testing.

My vets stock Royal Canin and JWB, plus the Hills prescription diets.
Gwen - I didn't think Iams did any diets specifically for health, but most cats dont like prescription food anyway (although very few will turn down a/d), and with most illnesses, it is more important to get them to eat, than worry about if it is the 'right' food.

I think the person who was given IAMS pouches were on them because of medical reasons,therefore if your cat/dog requires them what do you do if your vet only gives them IAMS? Can you refuse to feed your cat that particular food? The last thing I'd want to do is put my pets life in danger

besides isn't Hills just as bad as IAMS in the testing on animals topic?

I have seen my vets giving a customer Iams pouches only last march so i guess they still have them. They also have hills too

I was surpised to see a full-page ad in a magazine yesterday (one of the House & Garden type OH buys

) saying Iams had been voted number one petfood by vets

- I'm curious as to where they got their figures. I know a lot of them used to stock it but as far as I am aware, a lot stopped selling it.
