Good advice... don't forget Rescue Remedy too.   Hope she reports how she gets on.... but definately not a reason to have the older cat PTS.... maybe just rehome.

Perhaps they aren't giving enough consideration to their older existing cat before introducing a kitten and fussing more with the kitten too??    you never know!

he is upset, and taking it out on the kitten. Presumably the kitten is a newish member of the household Get some Feliway plugins and get them started off with some feliway spray. At night, keep the adult cat separate from the kitten until he calms down a bit. His inside territory has been invaded by the kitten and the added stress of an outside cat is just pushing him over the edge. I am assuming both cats are neutered. If not the kitten may be reaching sexual maturity which could add to the problem.

an anyone offer this poster some advice as they are thinking of having the cat PTS:

Our 5 year old cat has only just started behaving badly in the middle of the night, if he sees another cat outside (he is an indoor cat) he starts howling and then attacks our 10mth kitten. When we come out to try and save the kitten he starts attacking us. This has happened twice and myself and my husband have been severly bitten and scratched requiring medical treatment. We need advice as we are thnking of getting the cat put down, he has been in catteries before and there have not been any issues with other cats??? PLEASE HELP.
