Um, maybe my statement could have been a bit ignorant (about English grammar being simple), but in comparison, italian and russian are MUCH, MUCH worse believe me!!

Great to hear about the progress of your film... any chance we can see a bit of trailer as well?  Hope you will enjoy your time off!!

Cheers

Licia

Hi Licia,

I like the joke, English Grammar is a nightmare to non-native English speakers :), look out for a book called "Eats shoots and leaves"  if you want an amusing read about wrong usage of punctuation :)

They're there and I'm here and can hear them ask whether the weather is better here and if it's colder or warmer because of the strength of the sun's rays and its radiated warmth.  ;D

The film is going quite well at the moment, I'm taking leave from next Monday so that I can spend more time working on it over the Christmas hols, and also so that I can spend some quality time with the puds, the film was well received by my friend the Film studies lecturer so, all being well, I'm in with a chance of finishing it by sometime in January.

All the best

Leigh

Actually, the alphabet is not that difficult, there are only 33 of them, you only have to watch out for some of the Roman alphabet looking letters that are pronounced in different ways in cyrillic (like "P" represents "R" sound in cyrillic, or "B" for "V" etc.).  And they are not so farfetched like the writings of Arabic, Hebrew or Chinese.  And you would be surprised to find there are many words that sounds vaguely foreign. (Like in Russian tomato is called "pomodoro", just like Italian, potatoes are kartoshki, similar to german kartoffel etc.)  It is just humbling, when you learn other languages, how complicated the grammar can be.  That was one of the major roadblock for me with Russian, and I still haven't got the complete grasp of the Italian grammar either, and from the look of it the Spanish grammar is quite similar as that of Italian.  I think the English language got to be by far one of the simplest when it comes to grammar!!

Well, speaking of animations, how is your project coming along? ;D

That's interesting Licia, I'd imagine that it's not an easy language to learn as one has to master a new alphabet too but I admire you for trying. I speak French an a little Spanish and Italian but there is a lot of "synergy" in the Latin languages but none with Russian. I'm glad that you enjoyed watching it as I really like a lot of the Russian animators' work.

Cheers

An uniquely beautiful gem, very fresh touch for eyes that are accustomed to the western style animation.  I really enjoyed it.

Many years ago I went through a period trying to teach myself the Russian language.  Unfortunately I didn't get too far and gave up completely, but I was surprised to realise how much remembered (well in terms of recognising certain words, not really understanding the whole sentenses though.. :-[ ), and after so many years I figured out here how some words were actually pronounced.  Very educational for me in many ways :)  Thanks for sharing, Leigh!!

I remember this from years ago - when they showed the animalted series of the "just so" stories :wow: This one was my favourite, along with one about how the leopard got his spots ;D

Absolutely beautiful Russian animated story based on the story by Rudyard Kipling, an "exceedingly good" animation  ;D
