hi,
whilst walking my dog I found (well he did lol) two kittens curled up together, unfortunately one was already dead. that was saturday evening. now the remaining little girl seems to be doing okay, she's eating wet cat food (nature's menu) and has james wellbeloved kitten food down aswell. my other cat (8 year old persian) has taken to mothering her, cleaning her, and playing with her.
she seems healthy enough, sleeps quietly curled up on me, or if i go out i'll come back to find her asleep with my other cat. she's eating (loves the odd bit of tuna), pooing and weeing fine, (couple of accidents but she's getting the hang of litter training)
but what can i be doing for her, I know at this age she should still be with her mum, so does she need bottle feeding at all? if she does what do we use and where can i get hold of a kitten bottle?
thanks
pics will come soon lol
-
the vet has special kitten milk and bottles I think - there are a few rescue people on here who know all about this, hopefully one of them will see this soon - poor little babe, do you think they were feral or dumped?

i doubt she's feral, she's too friendly and isnot scared of people, quiet the opposite lol
-
how sad, wonder what they did with the poor mum cat :(
-
If shes eating solids you dont need a bottle. As others have said you can supplement her with milk from vet, Royal Canin vital milk is my choice, she needs to be fed with a wet kitten food as well as the JWB unless she is drinking plenty. She will need proper worm and flea treatment from vet also.
Good Luck

she is but not much, i know they dont eat much at that age anyway, but she doesn't eat that much at all, im not too worried though as she seems fine and has plenty of energy for playing between her naps.
we have panicur to worm which will be done soon

Sometimes we mix wet kitten food like whiskas supermeat type with a little of the made up milk formula so its quiet soupy and most little ones like this.
Sounds like your doing a great job
-
:welcome: to Purrs
As Teresa says it sounds like you're doing a great job  There is a wealth of experience on here so any questions just fire away ;D Will you be keeping her? :Luv2:

Milly's Mum calls that a 'meaty milkshake' :evillaugh:

I hope so, she an amazing little girl and our persian has been depressed since the death of our other cat and this has really brought her out of her depression, i've never seen her so playful and full of life :Luv:
-
Hi and :welcome: to Purrs Zarina, well done for caring for this little one. Look forward to photos :)
-
Sorry to hear about your other cat but it's great that your persian is getting on so well with the kitten. Sounds like it was meant to be :)
-
:welcome: to Purrs and the kitten and your persian sound like a match made in heaven ;D
-
That is lovely that your older cat looks after the kitten :Luv:
As others have said if she is eating solids then she won't need bottle feeding.
I blend Natures Menu kitten with some Cimicat (kitten milk available online or from your vet) for kittens who are just starting to eat solids. It looks absolutely vile but usually goes down very well! It may also be worth trying small amounts of raw food with her. One of my last litter of kittens wouldn't touch solid food at all and we tried all sorts of different foods but when I put some lamb mince down she went potty and ate the lot (she did then gradually start eating commercial wet and dry)
You can get complete raw food from here: http://food4-cats.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=69&products_id=187
A quick check up at the vets for her would be a good idea as well just so they can check her over.

having great difficulty thinking of a name for the little girl
-
:omg: what a little cutie :Luv2: Her big sister is gorgeous too :Luv: How anyone could abandon her to an almost certain death is beyond me :( What's your persians name?
-
Oh my she's lovely :Luv2:
When I got my Ollie he was 4 weeks old, I was told 9 weeks by his stupid owner, I had to take him to the vets as he wasn't eating, the vets said to use kitten biscuits and put a little cool boiled water onto them then leave them to soak- once soaked mush it up into a paste- easier for kitty to lap up then. I done this with Ollie and gradually introduced kitten food, this done him good and he's been a gannet ever since :evillaugh:
Hope she continues to do well :)

deffinately a naughty tortie. She is soo cheeky and full of herself, she's bursting with attitude, she's my first kitten, had three cats (not including her) but never had a kitten before so it's all new to me lol
-
You sound like you are doing an amazing job. Keep up the good work. Kitty will love u forever
-
bless! poor little puddy! she's gorgeous, well they both are... good luck with it all. what about something like Precious?
-
What about the name Lucky as she was lucky you found her.
My friend has a we tortie called lucky, she was rescued and blind when she got her and called her Lucky

i thought about precious, but that implies somethign sweet, well she can be sweet, but she has attitude, would be like calling a pitbull used for fighting (not been breedist, just an example) fluffy. lolI got teddies with weirder names than that lol lol mabey me a bit
i have too but lucky had his name sown onto him when i got him about 8 years ago lolHow about Destiny :)
i like it but im not sure it's quite her
-
Both gorgeous! :Luv:
Choosing names is very hard isn't it? I'm having problems choosing a new name myself right now
-
OMG she is sooooo gorgeous and she looks like a healthy little soul. Such a shame about her little sibiling (RIP litte one). It's great that Zara is looking after her as she will be able to teach her good manners and how to play nicely which can often be a problem with kittens that are taken from their mummy too early.
Little Miss Tortietude is a very very lucky girl to have been found by you and to be welcomed into your home and family
-
Can I suggest "Spice" as a name :) It suits her colouring and her personality if she has attitude. I hate trying to choose pet names for kittens as it is so hard to find the name that is "them".
P.S: Beware calling kittens things like Minxy Moo whilst you think of a name for them, I now have a 2 year old Minxy Moo as it has stuck since she was 4 weeks old :evillaugh:
-
How wonderful that the 4 of you found each other (dawgie, Zarina, you and little un :Luv: :Luv: :Luv: with added catitude)
I too have a minxy moo ..... aka Millie
-
Lottie and Rosella - I have a Mia whose name has evolved into Moo-cat as she's a right little so and so :evillaugh: Whats worse is she responds to Moo-moo now
-
She is just adorable and so lucky to have a mother cat and a slave ;D
how about Pepper ;D
-

:welcome: What a sad story about the other kitten, but what a happy accident for these two! :Luv:
-
Awww she is lovely, what a pretty little face. She looks like she should be called 'Pootle' or "Hope" or "Twinkle" to me

went to the vets for her check up today, and got wormed and deflead, and given a clean bill of health.
-
Definately she is a Roxy ;D
She is too cute for words :Luv2:
-
Can I steal her? I miss having a tortie
you'd send her back lol, she just had some tuna, walked in it , then come and crawled all over me making me stink of tuna.
-

Hmmmm I can see I'm going to have to watch you if you are on a tortie stealing mission :shify:
:evillaugh: :evillaugh:
-
I'd say she was a tad over 5 weeks judging from the photos but not much. Maybe 6 weeks. Not ideal to be on 100% cat food as they still benefit from mum's milk at that age. Where are you? I don't suppose you are anywhere near Canterbury? If you were I could give you some cimicat to mix in with her meat. :shy:
Be wary about giving her too much tuna or other human food. Her liver can't cope with the salt content at that age. Good old fashioned kitten food is what she needs. ;)
She's an absolute peach. I'm not surprised you are clinging on to her. :naughty:

dont worry she's not having much, just a tiny amout, the dog has most (have to mix some meat with his dinner every day)
vet thinks about 6 weeks now.

I'm rather hoping that it doesn't happen regularly enough for us all to stumble across adorably sweet kittens..... ;)
She is a cutie, though as is her "big sister."

i must say i would never have found her if it wasn't for the dog, and if he was brilliantly well trained and came when i called him i'd have never gone over to him to see what he was so interested in.
so here's a pic of little roxy's hero

What a handsome boy :Luv2: :Luv: Hero dog :Luv:
-
Oh wow, Zara is the spitting image of my brother's cat Phoebe who had to be pts last year :'(
On a happier note, Roxy is gorgeous! Poor little girl, who on earth could be so horrible as to abandon such a sweetie? Give your clever boy an extra big hug from me for finding her :)
-
Your boy deserves big    he has more than likely saved the kitties life
-
Sometimes Doggie big brothers are very useful as we found when we had one of ours missing for 5 days over christmas - her doggie brothers took us to where she was 30 foot up a tree - we kept calling them back as we don't usually walk in that section of the woods as its full of rabbit burrows!
She is a cutie though and looks like you will have another stunner in the family :Luv2:
-
