Yes, this thread is 2 years old. But I'm glad it has been bumped up as I missed it at the time (I think I was computer-less at the time) and have just read it through. I'm sat here snivelling at work! What a special boy Joey was and so sad he couldn't have had a future but at least his las days were comfortable and filled with love.

I thought you may all like to see joey's final resting place which is with colby in colby's corner. fresh flowers were laid for him in a vase this afternoon by a friend.

It is still very much a work in progress as is most of our garden however some of the bulbs we planted earlier in the year have now begun to burst out with plants of varying colours with a little cat lantern to keep them lit at night.

a very quiet lovely bit of the garden.

I am so sorry to hear his time has come Sarah, but at least by ignoring the vets advice he got that extra few days of love and good food, and the last pics show how much he appreciated that. It is such a shame when we get to them that bit too late, but at least he got the best of everything at the end, and went with people around him who loved him. RIP little one

I am so sorry that Joey has gone to the bridge today - he was such a lovely boy and should have had a lot longer with you .
You are a star for helping Joey and all the other ones -you deserve a medal the size of a dustbin lid (old type dustbin !).
Joey was a very special boy and at least you let him go with dignity .
I also hope the people that let him suffer have a very slow and painful death .

Joey -you touched all our hearts - be healthy and happy at the bridge with lots of friends to play with .

OMG Sarah I'm so so sorry to hear about joey. I had only just caught up with your thread last night and then tonight I saw he had passed to the bridge

. At least you can take some comfort from knowing that he was able to pass over with his faith in humans restored and knowing that even though he only knew you for a sort time he was loved, fed, cuddled and generally treated with the respect and affection that all kitties deserve.

He clearly bonded with you and appreciated everything you did for him it just so sad he wasn't strong enugh to enjoy family life a bit longer.

RIP Joey ... another special little soul who touched the hearts of so many. Play hard at the bridge darling no more pain and discomfort xxx

Thank you everyone for your really kind comments and thoughts for Joey. I am sure that he is at peace now and watching over us all. He will be buried at the Harbour tomorrow with our other special babes.

Joey was so full of love and even in his last few moments while we waited in the waiting room to go in I took Joey out of his box and onto my knee. Even though he was so weak he still looked up at me and tried to make gestures to climb up onto me to cuddle in over my shoulder like he did every night. I picked him up and cuddled him in and he was so happy just purring away. He passed in my arms purring away and I couldn't think of a more fitting end for this little star.

I truly believe in Karma and I hope that those who did this to him and who watched idly by as he suffered in front of them receive their just desserts. We were the lucky one's to have such a little fighting star in our care, if even just for a short while. He will always be remembered by us all and though we feel defeated we know we did our very best for this wonderful little man.

This feels like losing one on my own, so I can imagine how you are feeling Sarah having cared for him over the past weeks. As others have said, its just such a blessing that he knew love and comfort in his last moments, but so heartbreakingly unfair that he couldnt have had longer to enjoy that love. Oh dear, I have been hoping against hope he would pull thru. One of my little fosters came in in a state not too disimilar and we fought with him and he pulled thru and has now been homed. I was really hoping that Joey would do the same.

Sarah you can take comfort from the fact that you tried and offered him hope and a warm place to lay his head. He knew he was loved at the end and that is what matters.

thanks guys, Joey has returned home with us as he has earned a special place at the Harbour forever.

We have a mixture of emotions this morning but he left us with his dignity restored and with love and cuddles as he passed in my arms.

We will miss you Joey so much but you will forever be part of the Harbour and never be far from our thoughts or hearts.
