This was written for Plymouth Cat Rescue byNicola Glassco-Jones the author

A RESCUE CATS’S STORY
 I am unwanted
I am not sure of the reason
 Allergy, house move
 New baby or season
 I am unwanted
I no longer have a home
You said that you loved me
 What have i done wrong?

I am unwanted
 Have I grown old?
 No money to neuter?
 Easy to be sold.
 I am unwanted
 I gave you my love
 I hope that an angel
 Is looking down from above.

I have just noticed
 A kind smile and face
 A lady with a basket
That says she has a place
 I am so frightened
 It’s all new and strange
She picks me up and cuddles me
 And says don’t be afraid.

I am a rescue
 Who is this stranger?
I can see in her eyes
I am no longer in danger.
 She loves me, she cares
I am safe, I am wanted
I trust her, I love her
 I will not be daunted

I am a rescue
 I need a new home
I don’t want to leave her
 And be on my own
She has made me a promise
 That never again
 Will I be unwanted
Or turned out in the rain

I have a new home
 They came here today
They love me, they want me
 A new place to stay
 Checked out by my angel
 I am sad to leave
I know she will miss me
 I know she will grieve

I have a new home
 But my thoughts still linger
On the person who saved me
 I often remember
I know she is out there
 Saving others like me
 I will never forget her
 I know she remembers me.

I hope Nicola doesn't mind, I posted this without asking her  :shy:

:Luv2:  Thank you for writing this beautiful poem.  I too would like it posted.  Frankly I would like it to be illegal to sell kittens and puppies at pet shops.  Would love it if more rescues would do REAL home checks like I do them for salukis.  I want to know who gets these beautiful creatures and I want to know they can prove they care.  I want a vet check as well, and I damned sure want to know what happened to their last pets even if I have to nod while they tell me what idiots they are.  Do you know some people want new dogs because the old one doesn't go with the furniture?
All it takes for evil to succeed in the world is for one good man or woman to do nothing!  Don't be that one person, stand up and be counted even if you have to take chances and put yourself on the line.

:'(ADVANCED WARNING - THIS ONE IS REALLY SAD ..... :'(

Id like to send this to every pet shop that sells kittens at Christmas .....
 >:(
THE CHRISTMAS KITTEN
Author Unknown

I once was a cuddly kitten,
But now I am a stray,
'Cos when I was no longer fluffy,
They sent me on my way.

They've kept the big Alsatian,
As he can bark and growl,
But I could fly at strangers,
If I caught them on the prowl.

I slink around their dustbin;
I mew outside their door;
But it's clear from their behaviour,
They don't want me anymore.

Now I'm cold and hungry,
And getting very thin,
What have I done to hurt them,
Why won't they let me in?

I crouch in sheds and boxes,
In my bedraggle fur,
So shivery and dejected,
I cannot even purr.

They have another kitten,
Their children's whole delight;
But probably next Christmas,
it will share my wretched plight.

Great Poems

This ones good as well

The Meaning of Rescue

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked in my warm new bed,
I'd like to open my baggage,
Lest I forget,
There is so much to carry,
So much to regret.

Hmmm...Yes, there it is, right on the top,
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss,
And there by my side hides Fear and Shame.
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave,
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.
I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.

Will you add to my baggage?
Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things,
And take me right back?
Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage, to never repack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage,
Will you still want me?

Think I like this bit from the first one best of all.

"There is nothing more necessary than warming an orphan
nothing more rewarding than saving a life
No higher recognition than watching them thrive
There is no greater joy than seeing a baby play
who only days ago, was too weak to eat
By the love of those who I've been privileged to rescue
I have been rescued"

My Paws are no longer aching
My back, not so tired and low
My mind is no longer in turmoil
Wondering where I shoud go

My fur is no longer in tangles
My eyes, they are no longer dull
I have a clean blanket to sleep on
My tummy is wonderfully full

Im no longer thirsty, nor smelly
From pain and abuse now Im free
Because of my friends at the rescue
My futures now sorted you see.

Just found this and thought I would add it here

I am an Animal Rescuer

My job is to assist God's creatures
I was born with the drive to fulfill their needs
I take in helpless, unwanted, homeless creatures
without planning or selection
I have bought dog food with my last dime
I have patted a mangy head with a bare hand
I have hugged someone vicious and afraid
I have fallen in love a thousand times
And I have cried into the fur of a lifeless body too many times to count
I have Animal Friends and friends who have animal friends
I don't often use the word "pet"
I notice those lost at the road side
And my heart aches
I will hand raise a field mouse
And make friends with a vulture
I know of no creature unworthy of my time
I want to live forever if there aren't animals in Heaven
But I believe there are
Why would God make something so perfect and leave it behind
Some may think we are master of the animals
But the animals have mastered themselves
Something people still haven't learned
War and Abuse make me hurt for the world
But a rescue that makes the news gives me hope for mankind
We are a quiet but determined army
And we are making a difference every day
There is nothing more necessary than warming an orphan
nothing more rewarding than saving a life
No higher recognition than watching them thrive
There is no greater joy than seeing a baby play
who only days ago, was too weak to eat
By the love of those who I've been privileged to rescue
I have been rescued
I know what true unconditional love really is
for I've seen it shining in the eyes of so many
Grateful for so little
I am an Animal Rescuer
My work is never done
My home is never quiet
My wallet is always empty
But my heart is always full

A Taker-in of Stray Cats
God sends some of us a special mission
To take in stray kitty-cats in any condition,
To feed them and give them a permanent home,
To love them and make them our very own.

They chase through the house; their litter tray smells;
They seem to have secrets they're unwilling to tell.
They play till exhausted, then curl in your lap,
And settle themselves for a long comfy nap.

Some people are called to great wealth and power,
To run corporations and make big bucks per the hour.
But others of us are only asked,
To take in little stray kitty-cats.

I asked God for things of importance to do,
Other than loving a good man and a bunch of kitties too.
He said, "Don't be self-righteous; learn from your mistakes,
And be glad I send kitty-cats and not My stray snakes."

I dreamed when I died I heard St. Peter say,
"What important things did you do each day?"
I felt Heaven for me was an impossibility
And that I should have lived my life much differently.

Then God said, "Come in and have food and some drink,
And sit here in Heaven by your little cat Tink;
For I gave you one of My most important tasks
When I asked you to be a taker-in of stray cats."

- In Loving Memory of "Tinkerbelle," by Darlene Goff

Stray Cat
Oh, what unhappy twist of fate
has brought you homeless to my gate?
The gate where once another stood
to beg for shelter, warmth, and food
for from that day I ceased to be
The master of my destiny.
While he, with purr and velvet paw,
Became within my house the law.
He scratched the furniture and the shed
and claimed the middle of my bed.
He ruled in arrogance and in pride
it broke my heart the day he died.
So if you really think? Oh Cat!!
I'd willingly relive all that
because you come forlorn and thin
Well . . . don't just stand there . . . Come on in!
—Francis Witham

Cat Rescue.
We ask for help and know they will be there.
I call them angels - maybe you`ll agree,
Each day comes with a heavy cross to bear -
The work they do, the suffering they see:

The pet discarded on the motorway
To fall, alas, beneath a moving wheel.
Her shattered limbs are tended day by day;
Her shattered trust, they know will never heal.

The sad old stray who searches by the bin.
Unloved, unfed, thin coat alive with fleas -
For him a meal, sweet bath and tortured skin,
A cosy bed, where he can sleep in peace.

The tiny kittens, precious mother dead;
Without her care, they`ll struggle to survive.
Kind Foster mum, will see each one is fed,
Forgoing sleep to keep her babies alive.

Such is their compassion and their care -
Each small success to keep their spirits strong -
They work their miracles and cheat despair -
A balance for the days when things go wrong.

For when their efforts prove to be in vain,
When every ounce of loving care they gave
Was not enough, they strive to hide the pain,
And grieve for little friends they could not save.

They plead their cause:
Each suffering pet has earned,
A second chance, a home where they are free,
Where love so freely given, is returned:
Friends for life, as they are meant to be.

Angels crave no honours, only claim
To match with love, the cruelty of man,
Protecting cats is their enduring aim,
And ours must be, to help them all we can.

Anne Burridge.

I Didn`t Ask To Be A Stray.
With heavy heart and weary paws
I walk the wet streets, shunned, ignored
Thinking of my life before.

Once I had a loving home
But now the cold streets I must roam
Down on my luck and all alone.

Crouching in some hedge by day
Dodging kicks that come my way
Nothing but a hungry stray.

Inside the houses warm and light
Live my cousins - their future bright
While I must cower out of sight.

Can`t you spare a scrap or two?
Or a cosy box in the living room?
Might I come and live with you?.

I`m really friendly, if given a chance -
So won`t you give me a second chance?
Instead of a distainful glance.

I really wouldn`t take much space
I`d wash my grimy paws and face
All I want is my own warm place.

It isn`t fun to live this way
No-one to love, no time for play
I didn`t ask to be a stray.........

Unknown.

Prayer Of A Stray.
"Prayer Of A Stray"
Dear God please send me somebody who'll care!
I'm tired of running, I'm sick with despair.
My body is aching, it's so racked with pain.
And Dear God I pray as I run in the rain,
"That someone will love me and give me a home.
A warm cozy bed I can call my own
My last owner neglected me and chased me away
To rummage in garbage and live as a stray.
But now God I'm tired and hungry and cold.
And I'm afraid that I'll never grow old.
They've chased me with sticks and hit me with stones
While I run in the streets just looking for bones!
I'm not really bad God, please help if you can.
For I have become just a "VICTIM OF MAN!"
I'm wormy Dear God and I'm ridden with fleas and
All that I want is an owner to please!
If you find one for me God, I'll try to be good
I won't run away and I'll do as I should.
I don't think I'll make it to long on my own,
Cause I'm getting so weak and I'm so all alone.
Each night as I sleep in the bushes I cry,
Cause I'm so afraid God, that I'm gonna die!
And I've got so much love and devotion to give,
That I should be given a new chance to live.
So Dear God PLEASE, PLEASE answer my prayer
And send me somebody who WILL really care...

Adapted from John Quealy Prayer of a Stray

Fosters Poem
There I sat, alone and afraid,
You got a call and came right to my aid.
You bundled me up with blankets and love,
And, when I needed it most, you gave me a hug.
I learned that the world was not all that scary and cold,
That sometimes there is someone to have and to hold.
You taught me what love is, you helped me to mend.
You loved me and healed me and became my first friend.
And just when I thought you'd done all you could do.
There came along not one new lesson, but two.
First you said, "Sweetheart, you're ready to go,
I've done all I can, and you've learned all I know."
Then you bundled me up with a blanket and kiss,
Along came a new family, they even have kids!
They took me to their home, forever to stay,
At first I thought you had sent me away.
Then that second lesson became perfectly clear,
No matter how far, you will always be near.
And so, Foster Mom, you know I've moved on,
I have a new home, with toys and a lawn.
But I'll never forget what I learned that first day,
You never really give your fosters away.
You gave me these thoughts to remember you by,
We may never meet again, and now I know why.
You'll remember I lived with you for a time,
I may not be yours, but you'll always be mine.
Denise Uriarte
