"Utupian" definately the word! Not one hell of a chance getting that all going, not with volunteers with limited time and resources.. However, at least we dont get clobbered for doing things... and at least the whole lot of us didnt resign!

So we move on... it can work... but its never going to be perfect.... we just try out best...

Mark can you contact me about those computers as two volunteers could make good use of them ?
Cannot save the world, but if everyone does something we can have a jolly good job trying too....

I get the feeling that most of what was discussed won't happen. It was all a bit utopian  :evillaugh:

The temporary muddling along will be the norm. What I don't understand is all this stuff that was being discussed must be discussed in branches all over so why isn't there a standardised way of running a branch?

I would have loved a drink too but was driving. I also wanted to grab a burger but my guests said they would be at the house in 1/2 hour so I drove straight home. I ended up waiting 1/2 hour for them and went hungry. I was too tired too cook (been up since 5am) so cooked 2 caulifower cheese grills in a toastie bag (burnt on the outside, cold on the inside) in a sandwich, with some tesco value chocolate digestives

It got more boring after you left...

I just wanted a drink to celebrate the news.  :evillaugh:

Me have a bash? Nah! I'm just good at spending the money.  :evillaugh:

But I may consider it depending on what's involved. :-: I suppose we'll know more when they start to advertise.  :shy:

:drink: :cheer:   :yayyy: :yayyy:

After tonight's meeting, I can now announce to the world that the person in question is no longer a CP volunteer. It is unclear as to whether she was pushed or jumped.  :sneaky:

Fingers crossed the next one does the flamming job!  :shify:

But it's hard to sack 'volunteers'....

That is why you need to be very selective initially. We usually start new volunteers doing little things to see how the cope and if they like it. Of course so many people say they want to help and then you see them once and they are never to be seen again. Some you think ,thats a shame and others you think Thank God for that. What I don't  like is newbies who after a very short time try to take over, ump on well established volunteers toes without even asking. They sometimes will do things that have been tried and tested and proved to be a bad idea. Had they discussed it with us we could have advised them why it is not such a good idea. I hate having to deal with this type of situation as I like to keep everyone happy. Sometimes you have to be very diplomatic and remember who says what so you don't 'let the cat out of the bag' and hurt someones feelings.

Since we opened the Charity shop we have had to get ride of 2 volunteers for theft. Both of them had I interviewed them I would not have taken on. As soon as I met them I had a gut feeling and told our Treasurer I was not happy about them and on both occasions my gut feeling proved right.

If it were a commercial organisation, it would be a straight forward case of "Get on with the job, or find another job". I can usually find a common ground with most people and I've worked alongside LOTS of very different kinds of people in the past...

What I cannot stand is people who THINK they are my boss, treat everyone around them like servants and do absolutely nothing themselves.

But it's hard to sack 'volunteers'....  :innocent:

I've heard of people giving up because of beaurocracy in CP. Its a shame as its the animals that suffer through frontliners giving in. Sounds like a "lady that lunches" who can tell her aquaintances that she does charitable work and had probably never cleaned a tray out in their life  :evillaugh:. I take it this is something to do with you asking for feral funding?

Gill... I'm actually in with the in crowd. Someone else isn't.  ;)

Why stand for election for a post; a post that little or nothing serious can be achieved without the approval of, if you are only contactable 3 hours a week?

I'm rank and file. Not interested in titles. I just wanna do a good deed...

Without wishing to go into too many details, but can I just say that although I appreciate that one man band rescues have it tough, CP have to deal with lazy committee members, apathetic hierarchies and people who promise to do things then don't deliver.

I've had a very patronising email from someone I've never heard of (because she does sweet twinkle adams) ordering me to apologise for threatening to go to HQ because I failed to get a response to an urgent request from her mate for well over a week.

Here is my message to you - see won't be reading this but what the heck!

Swivel!!!
