Cats never die

I saw this on another forum today (yes, I admit it, I'm a forum tart  :shify: ); apparently it was adapted from 'a thing about dogs' -

Cats never die.

They don’t know how to.

They get tired, and very old, and their bones hurt - but of course they don’t die.

The world was created for them and no foolish designer would even think of creating a universe where the sole purpose for it’s existence would go away after just a few short years.

The cat lives, therefore the universe exists [Schrodinger had it backwards you see.]

I mean, it’s not that they mind sharing this world with all the lesser beings - On the contrary, you have your uses; with your tasty fud, dexterous hands, and habit of providing soft warm places. That’s what makes the world perfect, and in a perfect world death has no place.

However, cats do get very very sleepy. That’s the thing, you see. They don’t teach you that at the fancy university where they explain about quarks, gluons, and Keynesian economics. They know so much they forget that cats never die.

It’s sad, really. Cats know all the mysteries of the universe - right there in their deep dark eyes - but most people are so busy, they never stop and learn from the cat. But we know.

We know that when you think your cat has died, it has just fallen asleep in your heart. At first, it needs to make itself comfortable, and we all know how cats do that!

Ow! Ow! Ow! Ow!

That’s why your chest hurts so much and you cry all the time. Who wouldn’t cry with a happy cat padding claws in their chest.

But they make themselves comfortable eventually in that warm place right next to your heart, the best place.

However, as you know, cats sleep with one eye open… You wake them up when you can’t sleep and you’re tossing and turning in bed. They walk all over you until you lie still again.  You wake them up when you’re putting the leftovers ‘safely’ in the fridge. They swipe out wanting their share.

And then, when you start the car to go to the rescue centre; they watch through your eyes as you see the kittens and cats. They swipe at you as they want to get closer, want to see who they’re going to be sharing you with.

They hear the new cat, and they stretch out their claws to show them who’s boss… They get excited when the they see the cat in their hiding spot; when the cat fishes out their favourite toy from behind the sofa; when the cat comes close enough to you to sniff noses… that’s why, of course, you cry all the time at first.

Ow! Ow! Ow!

After a while, they sleep more - the new cat becomes ‘the other cat’, and the house remembers it’s old rhythms, and there’s fewer new/old things to wake up for.

But every now and then…

Ow! Ow!

Ow!

Just stretching… in that warm place right next to your heart.

The best place.
