Probably not but humans are omnivores, programmed for variety, whereas cats are obligate carnivores.

Thomas, I think you have to stop looking at cat food from a human viewpoint.  I’ve not had a cat with struvite crystals but have looked after two with renal problems, the specialist food for which looked (to me) like sludge pellets!  However each cat happily ate it with, as Sue alludes to, the occasional treat (including, for one, cooked chicken ).

Feral cats do not have wide variety in their diet – mouse, bird, vole – and I’ve never yet seen any cat hunt down a vegetable .

There are a number of packaged foods for this kind of condition but our bet has recommended we stick with a wet food diet for our cat who has issues like this.  We alternate between Royal Canin,  Hills (which we don't normally like) and Purina feline UR.  They recommend a low alkaline diet which is where saw food can be a great help but some cats just won't transition to complete raw food, and many owners struggle with it too.  It can be a really tricky one to try and resolve.

Ours still gets Felix and Gourmet too but as a treat rather than his basic.

Please don't feed a diet of chicken and vegetables, it won't have enough nutrients and will cause other health issues. There are other urinary foods available, Kattovit is reasonably priced. Not sure what the struvite foods are designed for, but likely to be controlling the pH levels.

Please rest assured that I have just received 144 pouches of r/c urinary. Please also understand that my motive for this is not due to financial circumstances. If that is what Harry has to have for the rest of his life then so be it.

The struvite (crystal) cause is usually from a dry food diet, and susceptibility. What I thought was that was the probable cause (he has fantastic teeth - not typically wet diet teeth - he is 9).

Chicken/rice/vegetable diet seems to look ok from what I have read. However, I wanted to see what this forum thought, and if anyone had experience.

Good evening fellow purrheads,
We have just welcomed a new little furry angel into our household. He comes with problems, but has enormous love and purrs.
What diet would you recommend as a natural alternative to RC Urinary S/O?
I would have thought a diet of chicken and vegetables was OK, but what I want to know is if the veterinary food has some "supplement" to prevent them from having stones, e.g. does it control the pH in the bladder?
