So I was checking out some ways to improve my cat's diet and I remembered your thread and Robbie.

I just wanted to share with you what I read about adding healthy things to your cat's diet and maybe this could help you when your kitty doesn't want to eat as much. https://www.felineliving.net/improving-cat-diet/

I sincerely hope that you will be able to help Robbie gain some weight and that he will do just fine  ;) give him a big hug

Just a thought Stuart, but one of ours adores Thrive products, and you can get one which is sprinkled over the top of food as a supplement.  It might be worth a go (It can be a bit pricey though, so worth shopping round for)

So your cat is losing weight but it is eating more?? Maybe it is hyperthyroidism. Dont take my word for it but you should ask your vet about it

Does his nibbs like fish?  It disguises all sorts of stuff.

Noni is hoovering up Applaws senior tuna with salmon on jelly.  It's pricey but she really is keen  :wow:

Glad you got it sorted Stuart.  I hate it when that happens - Hotel Chocolat often send orders to my workplace, even though I plainly specify my home address on my account.

Hyper T can strike early our Max was 8 when diagnosed and went on to be 17 years young so longer Hyper T than not, due to his nature he had the thyroid removal op and had a year off tablets but then a little bit left grew back was on Vitalda till he became immune then on to Felimezole and was a happy boy

Hope you have a good holiday Stuart.

Just thought I'd let you know that we had bloods done for Noni yesterday as she is losing weight (awaiting results).  £135 including thyroid (£50) altho very unlikely thyroid as she is only coming up to 11 and not eating well.  Just want to rule it out.  To say you got a bargain is an understatement  :innocent:

Sending best vibes to Mr Robbie

Does sound like it could be HyperT, Stuart.  Hope you can get to the bottom of it.

It's awful when you don't get the service you feel you should from vets.  I don't think it's helped by veterinary franchises where vets seem to come and go with little continuity of care.

Sending soothing vibes for Robbie (and for your wallet, too)

Having had 2 cats with thyroid problems over the last few years, I would say def get him  tested. At least if its not that, you can rule that out. :)

I'd check with the vet, but I think your blood test was cheaper than mine, so probably didn't cover thyroid, some vets can test in-house, if they have the correct part on the machine. You could also pick up a couple of tins of a/d from the vet, which is a high calorie food for convalescing cats.
Please spay your cat

Could be Hyper T they need to send bloods away  think its to Bristol about £50.00 and whilst they are at it they should run a sugar curve - all day stay at vets for diabetes symptoms are pretty much the same, being in diabetic number 4 and had 4 Hyper T's we now know what to look for, also senior food is lower in calories so that may also be why he needs more food.  Also get some Complivit food supplement and add to his food a great way to add weight, a couple of pumps a day is easy added to wet food.  1 pump of the wonder food is equal to a full days calories for a 4kg cat, this stuff has kept some of our long termers alive x

Robbie losing weight
« Reply #1 on: August 06, 2017, 10:31:43 AM »
Hi Folks

I think I just brushed on this with my last post - Robbie and teeth extraction, as I Had noticed that Robbie had started to lose
a lot of weight, I had asked for a blood test, they phoned with the results and said everything was fine.

I was away for 3 weeks with work, I come home, look at Robbie and think "He's lost yet more weight?"
OH has also accidentally changed his food pouches from Felix as good as it looks fish flavors (coz that was all he would eat
and even then, he would NEVER clean a plate) to Senior meat in jelly, I have noticed he is eating more but still looks poorly

Marianne on Purrs facebook page suggested Thyroid

checking symptoms, as far as I can tell, I have noticed this

YES*weight loss
YES*increased appetite
?increased activity and restlessness?
YES*a matted, greasy or poor hair coat
?a fast heart rate - not sure, but the vet did put him under for tooth extraction, surely that would have been picked up on?
increased water drinking - cannot tell, he drinks from puddles - won't touch tap water in bowl
vomiting - cannot tell - he's very rarely in
diarrhea - cannot tell - we don't have a litter tray
occasionally difficulty breathing - not that I've noticed
weakness - not that I've noticed

looks like another visit to the vet - to Get ANOTHER blood test, what annoys me is that I requested a blood test the first time
also quoting "he has been losing weight" in the same sentence, obviously this has probably got lost in translation somehow
(there are No vets in my area I trust now) and I see they
even charge for boarding now, even tho they don't stay the night >:(
