Ooooh - go for it, Rona, people can always bid for it as is and then buy it a battery or whatever themselves if necessary  :)

I have a little laser cat - not a pen, but a yellow plastic cat that has the red laser dot or you can change the light to things like stars or shapes ....  Thursday take no interest, really, so I would be happy to auction this.  It still works and I did have a spare battery, but couldn't find this last night  :( Will look again tonight - we're up to our ears in boxes at the mo as we move on Friday but will try to post tomorrow.

I don't have the packaging any more but the one I bought in a pet shop said something like "class 3 laser product - must not be shone directly into eyeballs or something"

I have looked at a few sites an for class 3, it says they are OK if shone directly into eyes momentarily but long term are not good. They are trying to push for class 2 for pointers - I am no expert but sure you have to be careful - ie  it's bad to direct them at mirrors or shiny metal as you don't know where the beam will go. Anyway, in the 80's I worked in a club (heaven) that had the 1st proper lasers in th UK that used a gallon of water a minute to cool the equipment and there were no safety measures and we used to have after hours laser shows with them going into our eyes and I can see OK (if I squint)

I'm also not at all sure that many of the things advertised as laser pointers actually have a laser emitter in them. I think a lot of them are just a red light... also any laser you can buy commercially does NOT have anywhere near enough power to damage a retina unless it is pointed directly into an eye for an extended period of time eg kids messing around - it's virtually impossible to get an accidental burn off such a tiny laser. Would need to be careful with anyone (human or cat lol) with known retina problems tho, just in case.

Any laser catching anyones eyes can be very dangerous and they all come with health warnings but cats love laser chasers. One just has to be very careful using them. Not seen a laser pen, which is normally used for a different reason.

I read somewhere that the laser pens can be very dangerous if they catch the cats eyes, has anyone else read that?

Blip must be jaded - she takes no notice of a torchlight :( But I think a pinpoint of light might amuse her for a minute or two

I haven't yet met a cat that doesn't love a laser pointer .... if you have a dimer switch turn the lights down low and it's even more fun.  We can only play for abut 5 mins a night as Zephyr is so fast and really puts his all into chasing "dot" that he actually pants after tearing round the front room.  It's the best form of exercise.

Moving swiftly on from Gill's Sweeney Todd tendencies  ;D, I'll bid Good Money for a laser whatever-it-is-called thing  :Luv:

They called laser pointers and are used by lecturers etc to "point" to things on whiteboards or projection screens ... I do have one but I really daren't part with it ... Zephyr would kill me it's is most favourite toy and he even knows the sound of the box being opened!

I will do a bit of hunting and see if I can find the spare one.

I've never seen one, but apparently it's a little laser thingy that you can use to project a spot of light onto walls etc. Blip is always fascinated when there's a reflection from my watch face so I'm sure she would love one of these. Several other people vouched for the pens too.

Perhaps they're not called 'pens' though?  :shy:

When we were talking about the auctions on CC, a couple of people were going to auction laser pens and a couple of us were interested in bidding  ;D

I'd like to get hold of a laser pen and I'd certainly rather give to Ron's rescue the money I'd otherwise spend on petrol, dragging down to my nearest PAH.

Anyone got a fully functioning laser pen?  :thanks:
