I finally got the presents out of the bags and wrapped, so Bramble and Lily have a bag each.

I finished my Christmas shopping today, mostly presents, very little food. I just managed to put the food away, when Lily decided to lie on the shopping bags. She always does, but she usually waits until they're empty!

Of course, Bramble had to have a nose too.

One of my cats was very well known at the local train station, underground etc.  In the last 6 months of her life, she not only followed me to the station, onto the train, she then followed me to the underground along the district line to Chelsea.  She would hang around all day and then do the return journey.  I had to loose 4 days leave, eventually just put her on the train back with the guard to put her off at Bexley etc.

The train station people were heart broken when she finally passed away from a stroke.  The vet thought she was having her last swing before retiring.

If I have an appointment, or need to catch a bus, I have to leave the house 20 minutes early, just so I can walk her back home.
She doesn't always follow me though, so sometimes I find myself waiting around for ages!

I'm gradually putting decorations on the tree, a few at a time. Still no trouble from Lily, though she did go for the tinsel when I took it out of the box! That's over an entrance from the living room to the kitchen. It's a wide doorway, but there's no door, so I'll be hanging Christmas cards up there too. Cards are another target for Lily, she likes to pretend to fight them, and then chew the corners!

Aw Dave, that's lovely - but as you say - worrying too.

We used to have a little cat, Flynn - he was the dilute ginger tabby - and he used to wait for me coming home from work, run down the back lane to greet me then dance back to the house with me in tow.   :evillaugh:

Am well impressed with that picture of her on the washing airer   ;D

Lily has another habit, which is both infuriating and endearing at the same time.
Just like several other people, I have cats who sit at the window as they leave. Not Lily! If there's someone in the house, she has access top outside, and more than once I've tried to walk to town, only to have to turn back because Lily tries to follow me. There are too many busy roads for me to let her follow me for too long.
I've also frequently found her waiting at the end of the road when I come home, which is less worrying! When she sees me she runs alongside, stopping to let me catch up, then running again.

Everyone seems to like her. She's very popular with my neighbours, who look forward to seeing her when she turns up for her many breakfasts every day.
I think she might be part hobbit!

Wise 'IT' cat!

I don't know what it is about your Lily. I find her such a gorgeous cat. Maybe I'm soft for grey tabbys.  :Luv2:

I dread to think what Lily will do when the decorations go on. Luckily I started from scratch when I moved, and got unbreakable ones.

I was going to put some tinsel on the tree last year, but she pounced on it as soon as I took it out of the box! It ended up over a door. I had to keep moving it higher and higher, until she couldn't find a way to reach it!

Yes, I thought I'd put it up early, to get Lily used to it, and leave decorating it until later. She's taken no notice of it, of course!

Lily was in a particularly boisterous today. Her balance is pretty good, though she nearly fell off the clothes horse while she chased her tail!

Hi Katie, how's Indie?

I didn't know either, until recently, how many varieties of tortoiseshells there were.

Sue that's fascinating, I didn't know that torties are almost always females and that Indies colouring is called calico in the US. I also didn't know there are so many recognised varieties, just amazing!

Thanks for that, my first lesson of the day.

Yes, beautifully illustrative Dave.   :wow:  STunning display of colour and pattern on her coat.

We had a dilute ginger tabby who was almost a pale pink - he was stunning, too.   :Luv:

Katie - this is a really good explanation of cat colours:

The colours are so dilute they aren't always obvious. Good strong sunlight (now only a memory!) brings out the ginger that's lost in colder light, as in this photo from last month:

A cat is a cat to me.  :sneaky: Sometimes, though, it's necessary to describe them, such as when they go missing.
I only really noticed the term "dilute tortoiseshell" the first time I took Lily to the vet, and at least two of the nurses there couldn't agree about her colour!

Never heard the term dilute tabby or tortie. A tabby is a tabby and a tortie is a tortie to me  ;D

I'm still not entirely sure how to describe Lily's markings. Some say she's a dilute tortie (and she has the tortie character!), others say she has faint tabbie markings. In some lighting conditions, at first glance, I can't tell which one has just run past, unless the bell on Lily's collar rattles!
