He hates cat milk and gravy!!  :)

No doubt he is going to keep us on our toes ans demand ultimate attention!!  :-:

Here's hoping our our cats will be tolerant!!!!!  :)

I don't have any experience with this either but I imagine with painkillers and wiring of the jaw the key will be to keep him eating. I'm sure the vet will advise and they would not do the op if they did not think he had a good chance of a good quality of life ahead. It may be wise to get yourself a blender and a supply of cat milk or cat gravy and be prepared to make food 'smoothies' in various flavours! He should be able to lap these up and it will keep him going. You can gradually thicken the food as he heals.
I am sending healing vibes and best wishes for the op.  xx

He has a cancerous growth in his jaw and the recommended treatment by the vet is to remove 1/2 of his jaw. The type of cancer is localised so hopefully the surgery will allow us some additional time.

We're not sure what he will be able to eat or how he will cope so if anyone has any experience of this we would welcome the advice?

Hi Senga & Kendal  :welcome:

So sorry to hear Kendal is going for surgery.  I'm sorry I have no experience of this procedure ... why is he having the operation.

I think the vet is the best person to answer your questions.

Sending lots of get well soon vibes to a very handsome boy xxx

Hi

I'm new to the forum but my cat is going for a mandibulectomy next week to remove 1/2 his jaw, does anyone have any experience or advice for this procedure?

Also he will only be able to eat soft foods does anyone have any suggestions of foods that I might be able to try?

My cats name is Kendal, he is a 15 year old rescue cat.

Senga
