A great update but you need to take things very slowly and cautiously and every little new step is wondreful but dont walk before you can run..............Riley is sounding the best he has been today and long may this continue

I think a way to go still and Riley and you and Lu of course are deep in our hearts and we are all hoping and wishing for him to be fine and home again, Such a roller coaster and luckily Riley wont know anything about this and once he becomes fully aware he will be raring to go home and be himself but the vets will know what is best.

Many many good vibes today for Riley and his continued improvement

Whisper some love to him from all of us.

I agree best to take each day as it comes Helen, harrowing though it's been so far.      I wish we lived nearby, as I know my OH would be more than happy to watch over Riley - he's been as struck down by what's happened as the rest of us (you know how it is - we all talk to our besotted cat mad mates and partners/family members about the Purrs cats, don't we?!)

Just keeping those positive vibes and loving thoughts topped up to the very brim and beyond - they're overflowing for our little guy, and for you and Lu too.

That sounds very promising  ;D  He's a fighter isn't he?

I understand that it is an auto immune thing but has the vet said anything about what caused it to manifest now after he's been ok for the rest of his life?  Surely something must have triggered it?

it would be wonderful if it turned out to be some kind of virus causing all Riley's problems, and that he is now getting over, as hopefully that would mean he can make a 100% recovery, and you won't have to worry about him once he is better

Sadly not Kay  :shy: The MRI showed necrosis to a particular part of his brain which is irreversible, he won't be 'brain damaged' in that sense but this condition will be something he has for life. If the seizures can be controlled by medication then there's no reason he can't live a 'normal' life (although I haven't asked life expectancy, almost don't want to know) but not all seizures can be. He has the absolute best care available to him so we are doing everything we can but only time will tell. Things looked very bleak for him just 48 hours ago so I can't get ahead of myself, can only keep thinking positive and hope beyond hope that he will get through this :wish:

I really am so grateful for all the kind thoughts and wishes directed at both Riley and me - please, please keep up the positive thoughts and prayers for him to get through this

Naturally hope Riley had another seizure free night and that he continues with slow and sure progress today Helen

I do hope you are getting some sleep   I think you said you are due back at work tomorrow?  Very much hope your boss is understanding and you are able to reach some accommodation to manage your time between work and vet visits

I slept better last night than I have in a long time although the panic came back from when I woke up, up until when the vet rang.

I'm due back on nights on Thursday which isn't ideal  :shy: If he comes home while I'm on nights I'm going to ask my Mum to come and stay overnight, just to monitor him really as I would be very reluctant to leave him for 9 hours straight as soon as he is released.

I've had near enough the last four weeks off on annual leave what with my sister coming over from Oz, my own mini-seaside holiday and an aborted Center Parcs holiday so won't be able to get the night shifts off, plus they are hard to cover as hardly anybody (aprt from me!) likes doing nights.

I think it's still a case of getting through each day so I will cross the bridge of what to do when it appears in front of me.

Another positive update with no seizures overnight. Vet said that he is still on a low dose of the sedative which they will wean him off over the morning but that he is showing an interest in his surroundings, he is apparently very wobbly but is meowing and responding to strokes. Will be visiting later this afternoon, just a short one so as not to over stimulate him today.

It is always a very encouraging sign when a poorly cat show signs of an appetite but so much more so when they have been so very poorly Helen     Hopefully whatever he has been lapping has been full to the brim of nutritious ingredients.

I hardly dare suggest it Helen but perhaps suggesting to vet that Riley stays in ITU just a teeny bit longer than before in the hope that he will be monitored closer?  :shy:  I know that will probably interfere with his worried mom visiting but ...............
