The way mitzy is now is all down to you. There isn't many people in this cruel world like you and all of us here on purrs who would put the time, patience and effort giving unconditional care and love to these poor little souls. I feel both sorrow and anger for the so called human beings who inflict so much pain and suffering to poor defenceless animals who do nott have a voice........ It bring tears to my eyes... But then you read a story like mitzy''s.......

. I can change her bedding no problems at all ,infact nothing bothers her ,well all except mobile phones she hates them for some reason ,oh and children ,ha ha xx

That's absolutely fantastic news.....

I am so pleased that you have progressed to this stage, you have done a sterling job with her over the past few weeks since you have had her and the little ones. I am sure she will come out of the unpredicability eventually but it will just take time but she will probably go through it again with someone new so I would stress this to any interested new owner as I'm sure you will.

That's made my day your posting, it just proves how loving,forgiving and trusting animals can be.....Bless both your's and Mitzy's little cotton socks...

Well ,I am so mega happy to say ......... Mitzy has accepted me as a friend

. She now jumps onto the desk where I'm sat at the pc and rubs her self under my chin wanting a fuss ,whoop whoop

. She will leave her nest now even if I'm sat right next to it cooing over the babies. I've changed her bedding as she herself dug the top blanket out of the nest anyway ,think it was too grubby for her standards too ,lol.

The kittens are just scrummy ,a boy ,very chunky he is too. His sister is petite and pretty. She isn't all black she has a small white bib and some spots on her tummy. They are 19 days old today ,can't believe how quick its going.

Mitzy is still a tad unpredictable

,she does scare me sometimes still. She has batted me twice yesterday when I stroked her in a way she ovbiously didn't like ,even though she came to me for a fuss ,lol. They were tiny scratches she left me with though ,where as before she did some nasty damage from which i will be scarred for life ,lol. I will always remember her

.
I have interest in homes for the kittens so pending a homecheck fingers crossed they will be loved and have a good home in around 6 weeks time. I'm quite taken with Mitzy but as she needs a home without children she will have to be rehomed too ,she's shown she can be loving now and she is oh so clever ,lets me know exactley what she wants ! like the meaty nuggets picking out of her biscuits as she loves those ,and her tray must be freshly changed for her to poop in it , quite a diva.
I've been trying to post pics up and failing miserably ,lol. Keeps saying they are too big. So may post a photo bucket link with updated pics on xx

That's really good that Mitzy accepts your hubby in the room too. I can understand her not wanting your kiddy winks in as I think you said that she had been kicked and mauled abit in her last residence which also is something to consider when you do eventually rehome her as I think she might not forget that and may not tolerate a home with children.
With her chatting to you ( I call it that too as I have better conversations with my babies then I do with my hubby sometimes)

and coming to greet you, that bodes well for your interaction with the little ones as they are not aware of what mum went through and once she sees this I think you will be surprised how quick her trust will build with you.. Also I think you may be able to work your magic on your hubby too, with him visiting her, I think he has a soft spot for Mitzy secretly.....

Hi. No mitzy will not attack me anymore unless I do something wrong in her eyes ,like touch her ,lol. Or If i dare to reach in her nest at all. Where as before if I came into her room I would get attacked ,she tried to run up my legs to get me .She will come over for food now though and be fine being that close to me ,she chats away to me ,well ok she meows ,but i call it chat

and purrs quite contented feeding her babies. She never growls at me anymore ,but will growl if my kids come into her room as ive kept them away from her for there safety really as she is unpredictable.She accepts my husband being in her room too now. Ive tried to let her have space to herself. I think your right though ,she must know there are cats around ,plus a dog but they never have had contact.

Is Mitzy still as ferocious as she was when you first had her and only when you are around the nest and babies? This could be because she can smell your other cats on you and with her not knowing them she sees this as a threat. Has anyone else from outside your home been into her? Just a thought as I wondered if she reacted the same with everyone. I guess she may because it's still early days...

Aw thanks. I'm glad there is progress. I was frightened to be in the same room as her for first few days as she would fly at me ,lol. Thankful I stuck at it and she tolerates me now. Sounds like you have a job on your hands too with your mummy cat. Hope it works out for her too.
I have been worried about socialising the kittens ,they are starting to wobbly sit up now so wont be much longer till they wobble out the nest. I was thinking I should intervene a bit when they are older so thats great to have that confirmed as right thing to do ,thanks.

The new bedding in another area I will try then ,thanks for that. I've never had kittens I cant touch before ,Ive been at the other births ( they wanted me there ) so had trust there. I like a clean nest for them but I know it would upset Mitzy. Dont fancy my chances either

,she would go for my juggular I think

I'd leave her bed for the time being as her and babies scent is on it and any freshly laundered bedding may upset her slightly or just put down new bedding in her nest away from the soiled and she just realise it herself that she prefers a new fresh nest and relocate her family for you....

I'm really happy how she has come on. She's still nervy if I move quickly or go to near her nest, but there is such a change in her

. Her babies are doing great , very chubby and eyes just opened now. I sadly cannot keep her. I already kept 3 of my foster cats ,lol. Have 6 cats and the dog ,plus hamsters. I won't rehome her till I can get her trusting humans more . The babies will be rehomed too once old enough and ready for it . I have a bit of an issue with her bedding in her nest. I want to change it as its getting grubby but she doesn't want me to touch the babies or her either so bit stuck what to do. I'm thinking to leave it but can't do so forever .

That's great to hear and I hope her babies are good too. I suppose it will just take time due to the ill treatment she got from her former residence. Poor little soul, she must have gone through hell but I'm sure she will come round. Just look how far you have come with her over a couple of weeks and she is coming over to you so she must trust you if only alittle already.... Will you be keeping her or eventually rehome her?

Yes its Mitzy ,doing much better ,she is eating anything now

still having trouble with stroking her but she will happily come over when i feed her now at least and does seem content enough .Hopefully in time she will trust me enough to allow me to touch her .

I dont get growled at anymore and i can stroke her head when she is laid down. I cannot approach her when she is walking around but i know her past history and she was kicked and grabbed by his kids who were very mean to her. Still prone to flipping out at me but i dont have any fresh wounds

She eats more now too ,only the new go cat biscuits ( ive tried just about all foods !) so relieved she is settling better and seems fairly happy now.

That's good news that she is picking up, she will perhaps eat a bit more now too. She's certainly been through the mill this week but I'm sure she will be a different cat this time next week. Keep us updated on her and the little ones progress.

She was at the vets today. I became worried because she was trembling when feeding her kittens. Also lack of appetite worried me too. She had a raised temperature so the vet gave her antibiotic jab. Also as i thought ,the trembling was down to calcium deficiancy so has a supplement for it. Hope I can get her more relaxed ,she looks more well in herself now ,the vets was this morning and the jab must have started to take effect.
Ive got the radio in her room now and ordered a feliway on line so maybe she will improve soon enough. Thank you all for your advice

You can always try a Pet Remedy or Feliway diffuser....I have the Pet Remedy and it has worked wonders for my psychotic Siamese

who used to rip my legs to shreds daily but is just a soft little pussycat now.... Good Luck.....

I tend to keep the ferals as most have nowhere else to go and the others in my brood are all rescues to - I have abig house, a lot of land and a Husband who loves catsd and works away from home to keep his fur kids - Dawn you forgot the Clan cats pets the 3 Border collies, Sky,Sunny and Mistral

What I know is she was left alone in a flat ,only having human contact for half hour to be fed. Owner didn't know she was pregnant so she gave birth alone and on his bed. His mother told us he wasnt even capable of seeing to himself let alone animals so I really dont know what kind of life Mitsy has had ,how you don't know a cat is pregnant is beyond me. She has only 2 kittens ,i did ask him to search the flat for more just incase. I am going to have to brave an attack and injuries

soon to check her over closely to be sure she isn't in pain due to mastitis or birth complciations as her history is unknown. if she was ill she would attack also ? she will eat ham etc but no real appetite. I will book our vets tomorrow anyway.Didn't want to add to her stress but may have to take her . Kittens are doing great , feeding well and she takes good care of them. Both are black ,Mitsy is black and white.

Poor Mum, it's awful when they are so scared. The mum of my two was very scared although very weak as she was starving so didn't have the strength to do much. She wasn't vicious though thank goodness.

I know that at the shelter that I foster for they sometimes take kittens away from their Mums if the Mum's are aggressive or feral. So that they can tame the kittens. Seems an awful shame but I totally understand why they do it. Hopefully your mummy cat will settle down after a couple of weeks.

Is she feral do you know, or could she just be very scared?

although Liz tends to keep hers so her brood numbers about 50!!

I imagine as the others have said mitsy is just terrified I'm sure she will calms down and agree that a bit of background music can sooth them

I will try the radio thing as it is very quiet in her room. Her crate is covered on 3 sides and the top ,just the front where the door is open is all thats un covered. I thought fostering was demanding enough but what you do for feral cats is just amazing. I have always had friendly ones through here ,timid but soon came around. Never been attacked so its all new to me in that way. Plus just want to do the right thing for mitsy ( mummy cat ) bless her x
