Hi guys. Thanks for ongoing help, I may take your advice and restart thread in the health section. Just to answer latest question - she has had both long lasting antibiotics injected when her glands were 'washed out' and also pills (scrunched up in my pestle and mortar and added to dried food). Have not tried a total change of diet though have tried to add bran flakes to her current dried food but she eats around it. Have tried converting her to wet food but she ignores it. Any recommendations of dry food that is high protein gratefully received.

re glands..not an expert but my boy cat Pacey was taken to vets other week for this and given a course of anti biotics and put on a protien only diet for a week which helped him...obviously though you have probably been through all that and back again

Hi all. Help coming in fast. Very grateful. To answer Dawn and Gill in no particular order...
1. Yes - I am with PetPlan. They have already helped with the cost of visits one and two.
2. Tried to put bran flakes in her dry food - she eats 'around it'. Would appreciate more help as internet searches suggest dry food may be part of the problem. However she ignores any wet food I put down. I assume she has been fed dry food all her life (I adopted her nearly 3 years ago, she was found living wild - long story).
3. It is my understanding that the anal sacs can be removed without side effects. Other than scent marking they seem to be redundant, but would be grateful to know if anyone out there has had this operation performed on their cat.
4. Vet said op was serious and hoped it would not be necessary.
5. I live in Bucks.

This sounds rather serious and have not heard of removal before.......what are the side effects if any?

Is she insured, and if so is worth asking foir a referral to a specialist.

What does your vet advice and what part of the country are you in?

Hi Gill,

Yes - she has had 3 visits so far. First one they emptied the sacs. Second one involved going under anaesthetic, washing out the sacs and administering long lasting antibiotic. Problem still returned, sacs manually evacuated by vet on 3rd visit, scooting now back and getting worse. Dread having her sacs surgically removed but seems to be heading in that direction. That is why I am now seeking advice from the internet to see if the problem can be resolved in any other way. Not sure what to do for the best. She is a rescue cat and her previous foster parents suggested I bite the bullet and go for surgery, but she is only 5 (approx) years old and wondered if it was too traumatic.
