Monty lived out his life here with me in the end. I knew no-one was going to adopt a 19 yr old with kidney failure, so he moved in and after a few times of biffing mine every time they came near, he settled in well, spent some quality time in the garden in the summer and took over my bed when the weather got cooler  :Luv: He had a really good appetite really up until his last week or so, but started to go downhill and I could see he wasnt having quality of life any more. He was pts a few weeks ago, and his original owner came with me to the vets.

I had to reread thread as I thought you said he was getting on and I find I was right Gillian  :wow:  He looks fabulous for 19  :) :) :)  and not altogether surprised his kidneys are not 100% but great that he has an appetite and otherwise in good health.  Has he met any of your furry family yet Gillian?

Monty's wee sample showed it was very dilute, so, along with the highish blood urea, his kidneys are definitely struggling, but he's still got a great appetite which is a bonus. Vet recommending k/d or, as I don't really want to jeapordise his good appetite, senior cat food as a compromise. Actually we had some k/d pouches donated, so I have tried him with some mixed into his felix and he seems ok with it, so I'll see how it goes. He's eating 2-3 pouches a day + some dry!

He's started to have little outings in the garden now and has found a favourite tree for scratching  :Luv:

Such a lovely boy  My darling Monty was black and white too  I lost him 2 years ago aged 17 years after we had been together for 15 of them   I hope Monty finds happiness in a new home   Am so sorry that his owner could not keep him
Please give him a cuddle from me - when he wakes up!

Well, Monty is here  :Luv: Collected him last Thursday. He's settled in, sleeps a lot. He had his blood tests on Monday, negative for FIV/FelV, not hyperthyroid, urea slightly high, which may be kidney problems, but also may just be dehydration, have to get a wee sample to investigate kidneys further. He'd been fed a totally dry diet for quite a long time now, although when I first looked after him several years ago, he used to have wet food. He was desparately thirsty, but have been feeding him pouches (which he loves!) since he's been here, and he's not drinking nearly so much now. Anyway, here he is doing what he does - sleeping lol!

I gave him numbers to call, including Cinamon trust, when he first asked for help, don't know if they were followed up.

Has his owner contacted the Cinnamon Trust?  They exist to help in a situation such as this - so very sad for Monty and his owner
I only took on Oscar because I knew he would be cared for by the trust if I wasn't able to look after him

Its a bit more complicated :( his owner has 2 other cats (youngish) who are going with him to the new house. He had to persuade the landlord to let him have those two, a third wasnt an option. Although Monty is coming to our rescue, his owner is going to pay for everything.

That's even sadder, his owner must be gutted  :(

I had that problem when Leo came back to us he thought he was top cat and Bailey and Clio my alphas had words with him about that and now we have a status quo but Leo gets to play out till the dogs last walk then comes to bed upstairs on his scartching post

Sweetie ruled the Clan with a paw of iron and looks and even at 19 could make them move just by walking in a room I let her of course as she was my baby and let the others live here

Which rescue do you foster for Gillian?

Cats Action Trust (North & West Wilts) http://www.catsactiontrust.speedycheetah.com/   :)

How sad for Monty, and his owner  :( I know he's actually really lucky to have found a rescue space (especially with you!) but even so  :( I take it the owner has explored all the usual stuff eg extra deposit, offer to clean carpets on departure etc

Its a bit more complicated :( his owner has 2 other cats (youngish) who are going with him to the new house. He had to persuade the landlord to let him have those two, a third wasnt an option. Although Monty is coming to our rescue, his owner is going to pay for everything.

Whilst you are giving up fostering Monty knows you and who knows your gang may like him and then he can be a forever foster

Hmmm! not sure about that  :) Although Monty is 19, he has ruled his household with a rod of iron lol! There were other cats, since died, who used to keep well out of his way, and he only has to look at the current two and they are quivering wrecks! A few years ago, when Monty was a bit more agile, he spent his days patrolling the ground floor of the house and the other cats would scatter as he walked from room to room  :scared:

Whilst you are giving up fostering Monty knows you and who knows your gang may like him and then he can be a forever foster with the rescue picking up any vet bills and you providing all the love he needs in his golden years a perfect solution

Does your rescue have a CatChat homing page? You could ask for him to be TopCat in the hope he gets spotted. Please give him a gentle :care: from me when he arrives

Monty has been on our website for about 5 months. His owner asked me to help him find a new home as he was selling his house and moving into rented accommodation. Monty remained with his owner and we hoped we'd have found a new home for him by now, so that he could have gone straight to a new home from his old home without the need for him to come into rescue. Sadly the house move is just 3 weeks away, and so far, there have been no offers of a home for Monty, so he will have to come into rescue - that rescue place will be with me! Yes, I know, I AM giving up fostering, and when Perdy finds a new home, I wouldnt have taken anymore - however, I am the only fosterer with the Trust, that has a space in the cattery at the moment, so.........  :innocent:

Monty is one of my cat sitting customers, so I know him pretty well - he is 19 years old, has lived all his life in the same house where he has 8 acres of land to roam! This is really sad that he is going to have to probably live out his life in a cattery pen (although I expect, once he's been with me a little while, I'll be able to give him the freedom of the garden) - BUT, there was only one other option and I couldnt see that happen  :(
