heres the update i am so happy to post

we actually had applications for Tenzings new home as we knew there were a few people intersted and we wanted the best for him and also the most suitable house for his needs. a very lovely supporter of ours who lives in an enclosed flat was hoping that she could take him home. she is also known to us so we are able to give her advice (and demand photos

)

so here is the super little man in his new home
i know you will be especially pleased Sue - your allowed to be a bit jealous too

i'm going to miss him aswell. i went to say goodbye and instead of his usual fidgiting to play he was still and purring in my arms (nearly kittennapped him myself

On Monday we will have a talk with the vets and then see about getting Tenzing his home. (..I am so worried!!). we will have to be very careful about what sort of home he goes to and will need to keep in touch with the owners, so that we can continue to provide vet care and advice (..and catch up on him).

Yes he is looking wonderful.
In case you haven't noticed Colin (who lives in the house with tenzing) also posted this about his first excercise session

"As most of you will know Mr T (Tenzing) had his left front leg amputated a week ago today.
Today is his first day being allowed gentle exercise......so much for that!
He's tearing around at 100mph on the carpet and at those speeds he isn't really noticing he has a corner support missing! Maybe he's in training for the next paralympics.
Currently dividing his time between chasing the sun's reflections (which is a good game by the way), and trying to get the attention of Rocky our black and white tom. Rocky is suitably unimpressed and is continuing his morning ablutions.
So far he's happy chasing round the floor and hasn't (thank goodness) tried jumping - but I'm sure he will at some point. You can't keep a good rascal down

long term prognosis
is probably going to be decided by Tenzing ! because his case is so unusual we don't know exactly how he will cope in the future. It might be that in some ways having one front leg may slow his jumping down from things (which is what was causing the stress fractures before). it may also make him more likely to stand on his hindlegs, giving his front leg more of a rest. If it comes to the point where being heavier is meaning he is in pain moving we may have to rethink what we do, but for now he is coping very well.

i saw tenzing today - he is so delighted to not have a headcollar on its like he hasn't noticed he's missing a leg. he is doing pathetic meeps though and i absolutlely fell for it unashamedly 'poor babying' him

He may have a chance yet, though, and I'm pleased you went with the option to give it to him.

Oh God, Sam - am devastated at the news. Poor little Tenzing - after everything he's been through, and when he has such a sunny and determined disposition. Am gutted.

He's such a special little soul, he doesn't deserve that. I so wish there were more that could be done.

What's the prognosis for him, long term?

sorry to report very bad news

the vet examined him and the wound was very infected with some dead tissue in his paw. she said that it would spread and kill him without amputation and she asked us whether we wanted to put him to sleep. It was a difficult desicion as without a leg and a deformed other front leg his quality of life could be very low. but the other side of it is he is a kitten and one that has proved to be very adaptable and eager for life. we also felt we weren't ready to let him go, any chance he had we felt (including the vet who also has a soft spot for him) we must give him. so he had his leg amputated yesterday and came through the operation fine. we will take him back to the speciailist when he is over the op and take their advice.

it is heartbreaking to know that after all that, all we have done is taken his leg from him. the only consulation is that after his first xray we saw he had stress fractures so as he had got bigger we would have had to do something to change the way he used his legs.
