My cat hard turned agressive to me and my other cat, help please

Hi
This evening one of my cat called Moet came into the living room and I thought she was limping I went over to check out the paw and she hissed at me, next thing a ball of fur came past me and attacked Moet it was Soks she was really going for her, I managed to separate them using a play tunnel and in doing so Soks attacked me and continued to do so until I managed to shut myself in the kitchen, she was totally focused on me eventually she calmed down but it took a while and I must say I had a water spray with me incase she lost it.
After a while I decided to go upstairs to find out where Moet was and before I could shut Soks in the livingroom she ran upstairs found and attacked Moet who is now residing under my son's bed very upset.
I have no idea what triggered this off, as Soks was in the kitchen eating some dried food before she came in the livingroom, and these two get on really well, have the occasion spat but who doesn't.
I have had cats for 35 years and have not experienced anything like this, let me give you a little background on the cats Soks is 2 and a half, and Moet is 1 and a half female tortoiseshell housecats, I got them last August from an add in Preloved website from a young woman who had just had a baby and couldn't look after them.
When I got them home Soks hid in a cat bungalow and displayed the same growling hissing etc., but no attacking , Moet wasn't vocal but was nervous though came out to explore. A few days later Soks came out and began to look around, both have been nervous from the get go especially Moet but Soks once out became more friendly though neither of them like to be lifted, though Soks will curl up on my when I sit and read in bed. I have let the girls find their own way around the house they are house cats and were when I got them, I think by their nature I don't being outside would be safe for them. I think the cats were not socialised as kittens, my son is 6ft and when he appears they get nervous he is very much a cat person and it is a total opposite to the cats we had before, he is convinced they had be mistreated and for some of their reactions.
I am sitting in the living room and Soks has hidden herself away, I will have to keep them apart as I don't want her attacking Moet again.

I honestly have no clue what happened to cause this, as with their natures my son and I are very aware they get unsettle by change, so any advice would be great.

Sorry to go on so long.

Mary
