Well not the first blood test since she's been with me - she had one just before her dental - which all came up fine.

Any prior knowledge would only have come from prior blood tests so you're the first one to care enough to get this done, ergo the first one to hear this news

Vet kept her in for blood/urine tests. He's just phoned to say her bloods are showing liver inflammation, they are putting her on a drip

and see if she improves, nursing care, appetite stimulants etc, over the weekend. Pancreatitis was mentioned - but does that just appear from nowhere? I though that was something that appeared over time?

Yes, its a thought, the antirobe was to try and clear up the inflammation in her mouth, and its about a week since she's been off it - so I guess it could be that. Our Trust coordinator (also long time fosterer) mentioned viral diarrhea which takes a long time to clear up - but its not just the diarrhea, its the total lack of appetite. The promax is a probiotic paste by the way.

She has had a lot happen since coming into rescue in Feb, her owner had already started her course of vacs (cat flu and enteritis) before she came in, then I took her for her second vac, then she had a week of antibotics because of her mouth, after which there was no improvement, so she had a dental (one tooth removed) followed by another 2 weeks of antibitoics. Maybe its all been too much for her poor little system to cope with? Going to try and book her in to vets again tomoz.

3 weeks is a long time to be on abs and this may have killed the good bacteria in her stomach and need some thing like protexin but she needs to eat to have it................I dont know what promax is though

Could her mouth actually be causing her pain and causing her not to eat?

Well she had been on antirobe for about 3 weeks prior to/following a dental, but those finished over a week ago, and hadnt caused any probs during the time she was on them.

She doesnt seem to be getting any better - she's not eaten at all again today (just licked some gravy off the i/d) and I tried her with some cooked chicken - she didnt want to know. She didnt use the tray yesterday and so I thought things might be improving, but this evening she's produce more bloody diarrhea

I don't get this - one day she was fine, normal happy chatty cat - next day these awful runs and no appetite

the poo problem sounds awfull ...has she had any meds that may have caused a reaction?
Im no expert im afraid on cat illnesses.....

Mo had so many mouth problems ....i did read that yeo valleytype bio stuff could be good for settling sore mouths but never tried it in end....apparently its good for neutralising the bad bacteria in the mouth?

Perdy's not had a problem before - this has come out of the blue. Vet gave her some promax at the surgery - Perdy was promptly sick when we got home

I've got some hills i/d, but she's not touched it, have got some chicken cooking to see if that will tempt her.

when tilly came from her breeder she was like this - bengals do have a reputation for runny bums but I wasn't happy about it, the vet ran loads of tests and couldn't find anything wrong with her - she was only allowed rc sensitive for two months and then wet food was reintroduced, she has been fine ever since - I still have no idea what it was and it could be a co-incidence but it worked out for us in the end

Debating on taking him to the vets , but he isn't ill and is eating fine.

Poor Perdy is poorly

Will be taking her to the vets tomorrow - she was a bit subdued yesterday evening, didnt eat her tea (very unusual!), then through the night she'd had the runs, and today she's been subdued again and not eaten much.

Not sure Sheila, but Perdy's teeth are actually very clean on one side - and the vets didnt find any problems when extracting the one tooth on the other side. It looks to me (when I get the briefest of glimpses lol!) that the top 'fang' may be hitting the gum below and suppose could be causing this inflamation to continue? just my theory.

My vet has just given me some Dentasept for Ebony which apparently is good for gingivitis, so might try some of that with Perdy - hmmmm, well vet could hardly open Perdy's mouth so don't know if i've got much chance

wow shelia that is a new one on me but does make me wonder, our amber is very small and has the tinest teeth ever we think she wasn't terribly well norished before she came here, she is the only cat we have who will tear plastic bags to get to food

I wonder if her teeth are resorbing - she's a litle young for this but as she's tiny I wonder if she got less than her fair share of Mum's milk so her teeth may be soft.

My vet refused to extract Pursley's resorbing teeth because they get very brittle and usually snap instead of extracting cleanly - which then entails major root removal surgery instead of simple extraction. Pursley's back teeth have now happily resorbed (ie disappeared/dissolved on their own) so she no longer has the Red Line. She always ate without problems so we were happy to go along with the vet advice.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh a red line, so pleased you mentioned this..............my old vet wanted to take all Sasas teeth out cos of a red line and I said no.

She eats etc without a problem.

So pleased that Perdy is doing so well

Very disappointed - Perdy's mouth is still inflamed on that one side - and a red line of gingivitis still there, despite nearly 3 weeks of antirobe. Its only one side - the other side of her mouth looks fine. Vet has said in the absence of any other worrying symptoms - i.e. not eating, losing weight, glands up etc - then she would be happy for her to go up for rehoming - she certainly is happy and healthy otherwise, eating fine, going out in the garden now and having the time of her life, climbing trees!

Think its just something I need to keep an eye on, and when rehoming, make sure knew owner knows about the issue and maybe even the Trust might be prepared to pay towards any future dental probs, will have to ask about that.

I wonder if changing her food to Classic, as recommended on Dr Addie's site, might be worth a go?

Yes, she went in on Thurs last week, had to have one tooth removed, the rest scaled and polished. She's been on antirobe since, and check up today - but the sore part of her mouth still looks red and inflamed, so vet has given her another 2 weeks worth of antibitiotics! Poor little thing, she's been to the vet rather a lot since she's been with me

Each time they weigh her - and each time she's put on more weight, vet told me today that it was probably enough weight on now

Mouth is still sore, vet thought it may be due to a tooth thats come out recently, and given another course of antirobe, but booked her in for possible dental next week. The gum still looks really inflamed and the top teeth on that side have a lot of tartar. Poor little soul thats 3 trips to the vets in as many weeks, and another next week - still she's taking it all in her stride

What's her coat like and what about her "ahem" toileting? 7 obviously seems very young for HT but agree worth asking about. Wonder if she has not been eating regularly if she was outside a lot. Trying hard not to be judgemental about previous owners as they may really have cared.
