Aww, that is wonderful Ruth - it is amazing with nervous cats what little things make us happy - just everyday things that we normally take for granted are so special with those cats.

Well i had a restless night as usual (not good sleeper due to leg probs!)

I decided to sit in kitchen near Blackie and to my amazement after a few mins he stood up and started to dough the bed whilst purring

Prob seems very weak to mention but im over the moon

Blacky has now got over his eating in public phobia and he eats in front of my mum

. Ive been there for the last couple of days and he dosnt hiss at me anymore.

Update on Blacky-

He's now been moved into the kitchen from the small bedroom so he has people around him most of the time. He's doing fine, eating well and using the litter tray, he sometimes sleeps in the tray which I find odd. His coat is nice and shiny and he has put on weight, he looks really well. He's still scared but he is used to people now and doesn't wee or do the other when someone comes into the room. My mum can stroke him when she knows he is in the right mood and he is ok with the other cats, they don't bother him. He is not walking about the house yet he just stays in the kitchen, but we don't expect that of him yet. I'm really happy to see how he is doing and things can only get better.

Hi all, just a quick post on Blacky, He's doing fine he's eating and also using the litter tray, he's still scared and a bit hissy, but looks like he's going to start getting used to it. He's about 4 1/2 ish i just call him old boy cos he's a bit weather worn u c.

Aww, I am glad that he is somewhere safe, but if he doesn't show signs of coming round towards humans and happy in a house within a certain timespan, it would be kinder on him to give him his freedom. I do hope that he comes round, it sounds like he could have a good life with your mum. And just because a cat is born into a domestic situation doesn't mean they can't be proper ferals, they can be made as well as born - and even cats born in domestic situations can be feral like.

Hi Beccy, my mums got him now and she also has 3 more cats and wont let them outside. He's not propper ferel, i know where he came from when he was a kitten, not saying he's not wild but i was in the room with him 2nite and he wasnt making a sound, think he's still in shock. but yes i know the house he was booted out from, my aunty had this i would say around 7 month old kitten, maybe younger? coming to the house and she was from the same litter, my aunty took her in. He has also used the litter tray, which i thought was a bit strange him being a stray, dont worry ive made sure he dosnt belong to anyone.

ccmacey you HAVE helped him, no doubt about it, but if he's a true feral cat he will never stop being scared of humans (he might not be a true feral of course in which case he'll 'come round' and get friendlier) and if that's the case he will be unhappy being confined, feral cats are wild animals really and of course they still need our kindness and love and protection but they cannot really be pets... what might be nice would be to give him access to the garden by making it 'cat-safe' so he cannot wander and get into trouble, but he can spend as much time outdoors as he wishes.

Please let us know how this boy gets on.

if he's really feral he may prefer to stay outside and just come in at night or not at all... feral cats are usually scared of people. Will your mum be able to have him as an outside cat if it turns out that's what he needs?

My mums got a five bedroom house and 1 room is empty so he's it there, no kids there either. She's got time to look after him and bring him into the normal ways of living, so he will be ok. good to know someone else is here and i not just talking to myself LOL, where is everyone?

hi all just telling everyone the good news, well i started a thread on cc a few weeks ago about a stray cat id been looking out for, well anyway i loaned a tray off c.p and on the third night of sitting out in the car waiting for him to come, i finally trapped him. I took him to the vets this morn for a check over and to be neutered. To my surprise he'd already been done and the vet said they take a little clipping from the ear to tell if a feral has been caught before, and he's got a clipping from his ear, which i just though were battle scars. He was also tested for the FIV, FILV virus and was negative for both, which I'm really glad about cos the vets said if he had it they would of had to PTS, Ive been a wreck all day just thinking about the cat (Blacky). He's now permanently homed with my mum and she never lets her cats outside so no chance of him escaping. So I'll also get to see him whenever i like without him running off, i got serious cares for this cat, he's 2 of my cats uncle. I know he's gonna take some time to come round to living indoors and being cared for and fed but hopefully he will realized what he's been missing and it wont take too long. So let the good times roll and i salute him, long live Blacky
