Pit bulls and pit bull crosses are classed as being on the dangerous dogs act.  I know someone that bred their staffie with a pit bull and some how the RSPCA found out and turned up with the police and removed all the pups under the dangerous dogs act.

It could well be a wind up or maybe even a sting to see who contacts that number. I know chavs are thick but I'm sure they know Pitt Bulls are illegal.  :shify:

Also look on the DEFRA website, those are the guidelines used to determine whether it is a pitbull.

Thanks for this Cazza - I contacted the dog warden at the council and they've passed it onto the Police and so I just hope they follow it up etc.

Thanks hun, my other half just thinks I should keep my nose out, but it really does make me feel uneasy!

I'll have a look and see what Bradford CC policy is etc and look into it into the morning....

I work for the City Council in Bristol and we regularly prosecute people for owning pitbulls.       The police here also prosecute for owning pitbulls.     As a result of the prosecution the magistrates will order a contingent destruction order giving the owner a certain length of time to do certain things.   This includes neutering, chipping, insuring.      If the dog goes out in a public place in must be muzzled.    If the owner does not do these things then the dog will be put to sleep.       This assumes that the dog isn't dangerous of course, not all of them are.     The ownership of the dog cannot be transferred.    So in my area yes action would be taken but in other areas I don't know.     If you did report it, it would not mean that the dog would automatically be put down.

Hope that helps

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but hoping to just pick your brains...

I was doing the daily trawl of a certain site and saw this ad...

PITT BULL 7WEEKS OLD

CALL xxxx £300

Am I right in thinking that PitBulls are banned under the dangerous
dogs act and certainly can't be bred from? Where and how would I
report this to the police? Would they even be interested?

I hate the thought of any dog being PTS but I also hate the thought of
the kind of people who may buy one and what they'd use it for...

Dogs aren't my area of expertise and just feel uneasy doing nothing!
