Just to let you know that Harry and Daisy were taken in by Bleakholt animal sanctuary near Bury today. My son has been suffering of late with his asthma and I got a call on Sunday from Bleakholt after getting in touch with them just before Christmas.
They will be keeping them together and although it was upsetting, I am confident they will be well looked after. The sanctuary is in a lovely place and the staff there do a great job. I left them a donation and will be setting up a standing order to contribute on a regular basis.
Thanks for all your advise and kind words. My son is back in hospital on Friday and hopefully we will see his condition start to improve.

Thanks again and here's hoping that Harry and Daisy will find the equivalent of cat paradise.

Thanks for the update Simon. Glad that you've contacted all rescues and if they are close I would stipulate they need to remain together as I've heard where cats can pine very badly if separated, in one case they had to be reunited it may take a little longer but hopefully they will get a home together very soon.

eta: Did you ask whether any would do a 'direct homing' if they are full? that may even be a better option all round.

Hi there. We still have Harry and Daisy.
I have been in touch with animal sanctuaries who have waiting lists and house those cats in most need first. I am hoping that whoever is able to help will be able to take both cats as they have grown up together since kittens.
At the moment I am keeping them in the conservatory where I have plugged a heater in. When my son goes to bed, I let them in the house for a couple of hours.

Sorry, I wasn't able to help Simon as the cats - who sound gorgeous - are longhaired, and because of a slight allergy problem the person I was thinking of could only consider shorthaired cats. As it turns out she may be moving soon anyway so couldn't have taken them. I very much hope Simon has found someone who can help - it must be very distressing for him and his wife.

Could you please tell me whether the cats are long or short-haired and their colour? Also are they inside/outside cats (ie do they come and go through a cat-flap)?

This is so sad but my sister also suffers from the same thing, she loves cats but after about a minute in my house she has to leave, my cats are longhaired so very bad for her.

She can stroke a cat outside as long as it doesnt break her skin or lick her but she is affected by all animals with fur on

Most will probably be full but you can ask to go on a waiting list and what many will do if you ask is a 'direct homing' which is where they will advertise the cats on their websites and find a suitable home but the cats will remain with you until that time, this may also be a better option for the cats if you would prefer them to not have to go in a rescue.

I have been in touch with a local animal sanctury but they have advised that there is quite a waiting list. I'm just gutted we have to re-home them, but we have to think of our sons health.

I'm so sorry that you're thinking of having to rehome your cats. It's always wise to go through a rescue though so that the right home can be found and any offers can be homechecked. You could post the cats details in our 'Cats Needing Homes' section and a photo I can give you some advice there

Thank you for your replies. We are pretty certain that the cats are making our sons condition worse. Last week one of the cats got into our sons bedroom and set up camp on his bed during the night. The next morning our son was really bad. His eczema was quite raw and he had a bad cough and had to take the day off nursery. We try and keep him away from the cats and when he does get near them, his nose starts to stream and his cough appears. He doesn't understand and wants to cuddle the cats.
We are taking all advise such as installing wooden floors, medication and using non-bio washing powder. The biggest trigger is unfortunately the cats -which my wife is very upset about as she loves them like they are her little boys.
I am going to put an advert in our local paper to see if any kind souls are willing to take the cats in, but will firstly vet anyone who is willing to help.

Firstly, are you sure it is the cats that are causing this. Very often doctors decide its the pets and don't do any specific tests. If they have not positively proved its the cats then I would advise trying to place them somewhere for a month as a first thing to try.
If it makes a difference then obviously you will need to home them permanently.

Most rescue I know of are full and you may have a hard time getting them into a rescue, but that doesn't mean a rescue can't help, for example we put cats on our website (no good for you as we are Coventry based).

As far as advertising them yourselves then start with family and friends, then vets and petshops. There are various free ad sites that can also be used, but you must vet the replies.
At 10 years old, it will be difficult to find new homes for them. If you contact local rescues they may know of someone who takes in older cats and would do so - especially if you were offering to support them.

Have you considered all other options? Keeping the cats out of your little boys bedroom, wood/laminate floors and a product called petal cleanse which you wipe on the cats coat to reduce the allergens might help and mean that you'd be able to keep the cats.

I think doctors are always quick to pinpoint pets as the cause of allergies but it would be heartbreaking if you rehomed your two cats and a few months down the line discovered that your sons asthma and eczema were no better.

Hello all
I am new to this site and am after some advise.

My wife has owned two male cats for around 10 years (Harry and Daisy) and until the birth of our son 2 years ago, they were her two little boys. Unfortunately, our son has been diagnosed with Asthma and Eczema and suffers with it quite badly. He is seeing a specialist who has advised us that we must get rid of the cats. We contemplated letting them live outside but feel this would be cruel as they have lived inside all their lives.
For our sons health, we have taken the tough decision to part with Harry and Daisy. My wife is very upset about this, so I have said that I will take care of this and ensure that they go to a loving home. (Preferably together).
Please could somebody advise the best way to do this. I am willing to pay cash to whoever is able to adopt the cats.
We live in the Swinton area of Salford, Manchester.
I don't really want to give them to a rescue centre as it may be months before they are re-homed and if possible, I would love it if they could stay together.
Any advise would be appreciated.
