As far as I'm aware they're still dealing with Freds costs, Janey.  ;)

"Fred is safe for now. We are moving him closer to home soon. We have someone interested in him but are taking care to find exactly the right environment with people willing to be patient and accept the advice of our behaviourist because of his temperament. After managing to keep him going we don't want to risk a move which could result in an incident where Fred could get into trouble! We have had lots of enquiries but we must make sure the environment is the right one. He has been turned down many times and has also had to be removed from a foster home. We are trying not to repeat the scenario - for the sake of everyone's happiness and safety including Fred's. We are still appealing for a special foster home. His total kennel bill to date is £615. A friend of the rescue managed to raise £240 single-handedly, we raised £100 from a school cake sale and another friend donated £100. We are hoping to raise the remainder this weekend and are confident the right place will come along."

Not specifically looking, JS, and don't really want another doggie.... but if it saves an oldie from PTS we'd have made room. Chester and the cats would have final word though.  :)

bless you for caring

Nope, not an easy one sadly. Julie, if you're looking for an older dog for company Niall and Emma both do a lot of work with dogs. I can ask if they have any oldies good with other canines.

What is the "specific type of home"?

I had a brief look at him as thought he might have been a bit of company for Chester and seeing he's an older chap wouldn't be like committing to 15 years but alas... he appears to be a bit 'grumpy'.  :innocent: Not to be trusted with other pets and can take the odd chunk out of his owner when feels stressed.  Not an easy dog to find a home for.  :(

I despise "people" that abandon pets.  >:(

I is just beyond me how someone could just dump an animal.

This has been posted on Facebook:

The kennels looking after Fred are no longer willing to care for him as his kennel fee is building up without payment. Unfortunately we have had no luck so far raising funds to keep him going and he has been turned down numerous times for homing as he needs a particular type of home. I have tried various organisations and long term sanctuaries to no avail.so sadly we will soon have no choice but to let Fred go. I'm sad that Fred has to meet this end after being loyal to his owner for so long.

The rescue is this one - http://www.hornchurchpetservices.co.uk/ Any funds raised for him I'm sure would be gratefully received.
