Sad news I'm afraid, my darling boy went to sleep at 11.35 this morning. The vet rang first thing to say there was no improvement, Dylan still didn't want to eat and wasn't getting any better so we agreed the best thing was to let him go. I went up to see him and the vet was lovely, she gave me a cuddle when I went in and she brought my boy in to see me. It was obvious he was very poorly, it wasn't the Dylan I know and love and I knew this was the right decision for him. She let me spend a while with him and I had half an hour giving him cuddles and kisses and telling him how much I loved him. He already had a canular in his leg so fortunately he didn't have to have another needle, I was with him while he went to sleep and it was very peaceful and quick. I stayed with him for a few minutes on my own with him then had to leave him. I will miss him more than words can say and the house is not the same without him.

RIP my darling, darling boy - find your way to the bridge and your girl Sophie and say hello to Cleo for me. I love you so much and always will.

Unfortunately it's not looking very good for Dylan. His breathing is a little easier but he hasn't responded to the steroid which should have got him eating and he's not had anything to eat. The vet says he is comfortable enough and she is happy to try for another 24 hours to see if there is any improvement but it's looking likely that I will have to let him go tomorrow. The place is so strange without him, I don't know what to do with myself and I don't know what I'll do without him. I know I have to think of him though and I won't let him suffer.

I think he is about 10 Des so not that old but that was based on a guess of him being 4 when I got him so he could be older. We shall see what the next few days bring, if he responds then it may not be a tumour but we shall see. I will do what's best for him.

Sorry ann  i hope he has some time at home with you, sometimes everything is not as it seems

Lola had similar sudden onset of breathing problems, the verdict from vets now and the specialist in the states who looked at her x rays were she had lung cancer, they said immediate referral to a specialist or pts. I took her straight to a specialist and amazingly despite her really dodgy looking x rays she had pneumothorax and very inflamed mucusy lungs. Why we dont know but 3 months down the line shes nearly off the steroids and hopefully her mild asthma wont cause such a problem again.

Thanks for all the support guys it means an awful lot. I've just rung the vets to see how my boy is and he is doing ok, he's made himself comfortable in his pen and is just lying there watching what's going on. He's not had anything to eat but the nurse says he may want to eat something later when he's a bit more settled. I'm happy that I've done the right thing in leaving him with the vets, at least I know he's in the best place if anything does happen. I'll ring them again tomorrow to see how he is. Thanks again

It's not good news I'm afraid guys. It looks very much like Dylan has a tumour on his lung and he's very poorly. The vet checked him over and took his temp which was normal but she was very worried about his breathing. She managed to do an x-ray with him still awake, bless him he just sat there and let her do it, and there is a white mass in an area which should be black and she thinks it is very likely to be a tumour. I have left him at the vets as we thought it best he was there and being watched over the next day or two rather than him go downhill and me have to use the emergency vets (esp as it's Vets Now). He's had a steroid and antibiotic injection to try and make him comfortable and help him breathe a bit easier and we will have to see how he goes. If we can get him comfortable and eating again he can come home for however long he has left but we will have to see what's best for him and may have to make that awful decision.

I am in bits here, it's such a shock as he's been fine up until today, eating, drinking, doing all his usual things. The vet says that often happens though that they go on for ages and you wouldn't know there was a problem then all of a sudden it starts to affect them. Poor Hobbes is wandering round looking for Dylan and doesn't know what's going on, he spent the morning snuggled up to Dylan on his bed, I think he knew he wasn't well.

I will ring the vets later to see how my boy is doing, he's really not well though bless him. Please send all prayers and positive thoughts his way that we can at least give him a little more time.
