Dear Purrs in Our Hearters,

I've got two neutered males and a spayed female all non-pedigree what do you think my chances of breeding are ?, the cats that is not me LOL.

I'm not neutered but Frankie did jump up on, well let's just say, a rather sensitive spot earlier as I lay on the settee and applied all of his considerable weight to said part of my anatomy  bringiing a tear to my eye so I may no longer be capable of breeding after the swelling has gone down :(

Thanks in advance,

Confused of Kingston :)

Not being an expert at pedigree breeding (prefer moggies) the mix of British Blue and black seemed odd. Surely a blue should be mated with a blue?

Dilute colours such as blue (in solid, tortie or agouti forms) often have softer coats than their non dilute equivalent (in NFCs anyway) so by mating a solid blue with a solid black you can still get both colours in the litter (providing the black cat carries dilute) but have a better coat quality than if you mate solid blue to solid blue.

Miss Boopy is black and her sister is blue and her sisters coat is much softer purely because she's a dilute. Boopy's sister is expecting kittens by a black smoke boy next week so mating a blue to a non blue is a perfectly normal combination.

Im not breeding expert either hippy but as long as the two cats are the same predigree breed ie british shortair , you can perfectly easily mix the colours , this is indeed how ya get diversity etc, also in some breed you have recognised outcrosses that you can breed to when the original breed has a very limited gene pool, this is to ensure the gene health and limit inbreeding.

if someone wants to mate their blue british shorthair but wants to have a chance of different colours in the litter then mating to a different coloured british shorthair is fine (as far as i am aware)

i clicked on the bsh link and it sounds ok ?? dont know if i have missed something here.  She actually sounds responsible as saying any suitable for show quality - neutered and also is only selling for the non active register so she must be doing a contract or something to ensure the neutering of her kittens.

Just took a look at Preloved, out of curiosity. Look what I found! Is this grey+black cat really a pedigree methinks!

I don't see what you think is wrong with this particular ad for british shothairs - blue to black is a perfectly normal mating.

What I thought was funny was that she thought she could get a moggy then register it and then it would be pedigree.

That's exactly the bit I find funny.  :evillaugh:

Mark- kids are children.

I believe in getting a pedigree cat if its from a reputable breeder, obviously we know somethings not right if no papers, getting sold cheep etc.
What I thought was funny was that she thought she could get a moggy then register it and then it would be pedigree.

Although I'm an anti-pedigree person (why not get a moggy from a shelter?)

Please remember there are lots of peeps on here with pedigree cats. Many of those also have cats from rescue too.

Although I'm an anti-pedigree person (why not get a moggy from a shelter?) I'm amazed that someone who wants to breed PEDIGREE cats could be so ignorant. Imagine the problems being stored up. This is basically farming  >:(

I think she shouldn't be allowed to have kids or children. In fact she should be hospitalised - there is a good argument for euthanasia
