Storm is becoming a baffling case.  Vet has now decided that discharge is not from vulva but from anus.  I must admit it is hard to tell as she is discharging alot of pus and it spreads over her back end, but vet is now convinced it is from her anus, so her spay could not have been done at a worse time really, whilst she is full of some sort of infection :(

She is not eating and is very thirsty so, as well as having plenty of water to drink she is still on a drip.  They are going to do full bloods and also send a sample of discharge to Labs to see what can be found out but she will be staying in the hospital for the time being so any spare cash we may have raised at the boot sale lately has been well and truly used up twice over I think.

poor storm - hope they can sort her out - two more Lesley, I was sure you were full

Obviously not as full as what is advertised as the largest RSPCA re-homing shelter in the Uk - because they refused to take them.

This morning Storm is still passing alot of pus from somewhere  and is now off her food.  The vet is consulting at the moment so am waiting for her call as to what happens next.  Bill is already £180 so that's all the car boot money gone in one lump :-[ and two more kittens to pick up this lunchtime :'(.  It certainly never rains but it pours.

Report from the vet is that Storm did not have a pyo but she has been spayed anyway.  It would appear she has a severe infection of the vagina, causing the discharge.  She is staying in the hospital overnight on fluids and antibiotics and the Vet will phone me to let me know how she is doing in the morning.  Not the best time to spay her but as she was having to investigate the uterus anyway it was best to do the spay now.

Vet as well as me are slightly baffled as to what has caused the infection and how fast it came on, she was fine Sunday morning.

Will report tomorrow when I have further info.

Thanks for all the kind wishes for Storm, will pass them on to her tomorrow. :Luv2: :Luv2:

I can't get over what a sad time we are all having of it. Are cats/kittens getting more poorly? Is it because we can't get to them quick enough?

RIP little ones.

RIP little ones, and good luck for Storm today - how old is she?

She's just coming up for a year old Des, but is still only the size of a five/six month old kitten.  She was one of the ones found in a cardboard box last August.  She was due to be spayed shortly but the vet and I have been waiting for her to grow a bit.

What a c**p weekend - Storm very poorly at the Vets
« Reply #1 on: August 03, 2009, 10:52:50 AM »
Had a bad weekend with the babies.  Unfortunately, on Sunday I lost two of the Jacksons :'(  Both Michael and Latoya went downhill very quickly, refusing food and becoming very lethargic.  Within a couple of hours Latoya had passed to the Bridge, followed a couple of hours later by Michaal.

Then, had to rush Storm to the Vet this morning with suspected pyometra.  Had held off having her spayed as she was such a small kitten and vet had said to wait until she was older :(  Last night she started having a horrible discharge, which I couldn't work out which "exit" it was coming from

Vet confirmed this morning she thinks it is an open pyometra so she is now at the Vet awaiting surgery.

Luckily, did a car boot yesterday and raised £150 so that should cover her vet fees.
