I have 2 big boys and people are always saying about how huge they are.  Harvey weighs 8.1kg and Ollie weighs 6kg.   Harvey needs to lose some weight - vet wants him down to 5.5kg.  They are both large in size being boys anyway and are really long.

I will try and get some pics of Pod when he sits, he does have a little cuddly belly hang, Will also measure him, then you got an idea.

I am careful when i pick him up (used to feather weights), gotta hang his arms over my shoulder. I think he's a perfect mammys cuddly boy, but its when people comment on his
size (Frikken heck he's huge) and some cats beds in the shops, no way would he fit in them

It varies so much, and the best way to tell whether a cat is overweight (or underweight) is to feel around the abdomen.  You should be able to feel the ribs but not see them.  They shouldn't be too prominent, but there should only be a thin layer of fat around the abdomen (excluding the "spay sway" that some cats have).

Jaffa weighs 4.8kg.  He is a tall and long cat, but has a slender build.  He's not carrying any excess weight at all.  I don't know Mosi's exact weight but I would guess he's around 4.5kg, maybe a bit less.

I don't think I've got any whole body pics of him but his owner is supposed to be sending me some new pics of him at some point as I've only got baby pics of him on his page on my site so I'll post them for you to see when I get them.

I trid to pick Alfie up for a cuddle when I visited last year and had to admit defeat as I couldn't lift him as he's just solid muscle so he got lots of cuddles on the floor instead :evillaugh:

My entire NFC boy Pinball turned 9 months old a couple of days ago and when he was weighed about a week ago he was 6.67kg of solid muscle but he still needs to fill out as he's rather skinny when you look at him and feel him as he's having another big growth spurt at the moment and his weight hasn't caught up yet (even the vet said he's skinny at the mo lol).
I'm sure he's got ADHD as he runs around 24/7 which doesn't help put any weight on him and he just keeps getting longer and longer and taller and taller
Size wise he's bigger than Bilbo already and Bilbo is 3 years old and neutered!!  I dread to think how big Pinball will be by the time he's fully grown at 5yrs old and neutered as his Daddy was nearly 11kg at 3 years old and still entire.

I have 6 cats and 3 of them are 5 kg and above. Dino (boy) is 5kg but he is a very tall and long cat. My vet says he is perfectly healthy and happy with his current weight but she doesn't want him putting on any more weight other than his usual tendency to bulk up a little more over the winter. Lexie and Purdey (girls) are 5kg and 6kg. They are very muscular cats and I think they are predominantly Wegie's so my vet is also happy with their weight (although not when she has to lift them  :evillaugh:). My other 3 are small framed cats and they weigh between 3-4kg. They are all fully grown and range from 3 to 6 years old.

Your boy is beautiful by the way.

He dosnt look "big" at all Helen, he must just be a big boned cat  :evillaugh:

He is deceptively long, when I pick him up I can't carry him like a normal cat as my arms aren't long enough to support his back legs so I hold him against me like you would a normal cat but his legs dangle down near my waist  :evillaugh:  He measures 110cm fully stretched out

Bloody hell Helen are you feeding a tiger  :evillaugh:

I call him my beast  :evillaugh:

It's hard to say what an ideal weight is due to different frames, I found this online when someone else on here commented on his weight.  I knew he wasn't overweight but still wanted to put my mind at rest.  He's definitely a 5 on this scale, here's a pic I took of him just this minute from above and you can see he has a waist etc (admittedly he was rootling around in the drawer where I keep the temptations  :evillaugh:)

It depends a lot on the frame of the cat. My Tilly is less than half the size of Jumpy but both of them are perfectly in proportion.

My bridge babe Tigger weighed 18 lbs.  :innocent: He hated going in the carrier for a trip to the v-e-t so it took three of us to get him in there!

My boys are all different, Ted the eldest weighs 5.75, he is a big cat, stocky, the vet said he was ok as he is a big cat and he's not over weight. Where as Ollie he only weighs 4.3kg but he is ill most of the time and eats a lot because of the steroids. Harry I think weighs something near 5kg he is a very active cat and only eats biscuits. So it differs.  :)

I would say yes he is big but not in a fat way, he is beautifull  :Luv2:

IT varies from cat to cat rather than by sex - my 5.5kg cat was classed as overweight, yet one of my ex-fosters is 6kg and the vet said he was a tad on the thin side.
Please spay your cat

Riley weighs 7.65 kg minus the weight of a lightweight plastic carrier  :evillaugh:  He is not in the slightest bit fat, he's a big boy and very athletic.  His brother Lu is quite a bit smaller, he weighs around 5kg and again is definitely not fat.

Average weight of a tom
« Reply #1 on: November 28, 2008, 17:11:28 PM »
Hi All,
Just wondering the average healthy weight of a tom.
I have always had queen's untill i got Pod (big lad)  then Rolo. Rolo is like a miniture cat due to his bad start in life & is a very picky eater (i sneak Rolo food by hand)
I have to sneak treats etc, because Pod is 3 1/2 & last time he was at the vets for a check, the vet told mehe was over weight and suppose to feel some ribs.
And warned me about diabeties in cats as they get older. (But pod is fine tho)
He was a stone. His flea & worm treatment is apparently double what my other 2 have.
I have cut back on his treats and think is just the same. Evberybody always says, "he's big" ?
(but he is still active, whils runnin mad thru the house & runnin along the bottom of the settee on his back  :-:
I do keep biscuits down all the time tho, because my other 2 dont eat all their meat (like some animals would) they just pick.

So i am just curious about other toms weight.
Here is pod. He's a mammy's boy.
Cant really see his belly till he sits up, bless him x
