Can you give the vets a call?

Not really no. Matt did say he'd phone this morning and it's only 10:35 ... He's probably been busy with morning consultations and he might even be over at their smaller practice.

The vet is probably just busy with morning surgery.

Come on Mr Vet hurry up,doesnt he realise he's treating the Purrs Champion there?  We demand a call NOW :mad2: :mad2:

Too right.  We'll set the army on him!

In my experience vets are usually busy around this time,surgery/operations etc,I'd leave it to call until at least 1 as we gotta realise they have other patients too, although the wait for a call is a pain,we just gotta be patient

Fingers crossed for him, I hope he has a good day today.

Gillian, when Tom had his stress related cystitis, my vet said that black and white overweight males were the most prone to it. Interesting about the time of year though, never heard that but it does make a lot of sense.

That's interesting - did he say why?  Fireworks or some less obvious reason?

I read an article about this a while back, and it did say it was more common in winter but it didnt actually say why I don't think - I'll see if I can find it, because it also mentioned particular colours of cats being more prone (black & white) too.

I have to say, am feeling very lost without him  :scared: He's one of those cats who is always with you. I get up to go somewhere and realise my little shadow isn't there, keep expecting a lump to jump on me, meow and run all over me. Or when going in the bathroom expect the door to open wide and a little head to appear. Or even just the way he casually walks across the room, has a scratch on his post flakes out and licks his bottom  :-:

We always have a game of fetch around this time of night too and he's not here for that  :(

Yup, he did mention fireworks, he also said there's usually a lot going on .. I guess with halloween, then the run up to Christmas etc.

I blame fireworks myself :shify:

You'd think wouldn't you - but he was fascinated by them and darted from one window to another looking at and enjoying them. He wasn't disturbed my Mollys stress either it was a case of "what's wrong with heeeeeeeeeeeer " He has the most stress free life imaginable because he's so spoilt and nothing phases him

There can be stones without crystals, an x-ray would show it up. Most bladder probs are stress induced

I don't want to scare you but there is also a chance he might block quite quickly after the first one.

The vet did mention this on the phone, so I'm prepared for it to happen again  :scared:

Memphis definitely hasn't been stressed lately - or at least he hasn't shown it. He's been his usual bouncing off walls self. He has been normal talkative and even last night he was fine climbing all over me, begging for late night fetch ... which is what happens every night.

Susanne the vet mentioned Crystals in the very beginning as one cause. However, when he phoned back he said they found no crystals in the urine, he also mentioned the possibility of a stone but if it was that they've not found it. So nope I have no idea what it is and if it is crystals which form.

Sorry, typo!  I meant to say if it isn't crystals did the vet suggest what else it might be.

What a lot of wee problems we are all having at the moment! (the cats that is  ;))

Den this is exactly the same as Jess (our forst cat too and we're not experienced owners), his blockages weren't crystals they were blood where he got so stressed his bladder went into spasam. I don't want to scare you but there is also a chance he might block quite quickly after the first one.

Try not to panic, you caught it in time thats the main thing. Memphis is in the best place even though you miss him like mad (I know).

Jess was on urinary food for months it basically increases the water intake, Jess isn't a drinker even now.

Has Memphis been stressed recently?

Thinking of you

Thank you everyone. Means a lot and I'm already missing him.

Thank you so much Gillian ...... he has a pouch per day split over 2 meals and a small amount of dry. He actually does drink a reasonable amount every day so it's not something I've ever been too concerned with - though that will now change. Unfortunately he won't eat raw, Memphis has never been a big eater and raw is just too much effort for him

At the moment I'm snuggled up with his favourite mousey

He didn't pass anything whilst sedated. He got knocked out and a catheter inserted. There was a definite large blockage in his Urethra. They had a look at his urine and couldn't see any crystals. He said it could be a stone but he would expect to see some crystals. They've flushed out his bladder several times and are keeping him in on the catheter tonight.

He explained how he will be fine with the catheter in but without it he could get blocked up again almost immediately  :'( and something about the Urethra going into spasm.

Yes thats right, even when they've cleared the obstruction the spasms can close everything up again, so I expect they'll give him something to stop that happening. They'll want to see him wee properly on his own before he comes home - although when it happened to my Ben, the vet sent him home before that because she believed he'd actually be more likely to wee at home where he felt relaxed and everything - and she was right (although it was tense for me - watching him like a hawk every time he went near the tray!)

Raw diet sorted him out and he never suffered from it again thankfully. Main thing is to keep water intake up - so no dry food (or not as the only food anyway).

Hope he's better soon

Oh poor Memphis   I know how stressful it is having gone through the same thing with Jaffa on Friday (thankfully not blocked).  I hope he's done with the catheter and home with you soon   I suppose the future treatment will depend on the cause of the blockage.  If he's got crystals, did the vet suggest what it might be?

Hopefully once he is unblocked and on a urinary diet he should be ok.

As i have said, I know what you are going through as Freddy suffers with this, luckily he has only had his bladder expressed and hasnt been catheterised.
Hope your little boy has a comfortable night and is home soon.
