I specialise in taking staffies but we are at our limits both space and fund wise at the moment :( I normaly take in poundies also that are the pts list but I am just having to say no, our funds are drained with the 10 caravan cats and the staffies we have in at the moment, not to mention the rabbits, guinea pigs and rats we have in.

It is so heart breaking not being able to help and there are just so many staffies about needing rescueing. Every one we have taken into our rescue has been the most utterly beautiful dog, so loving and fussy, yet they are so looked over :(

Once we can funds back up and cover some costs we have outstanding we are in a place to be able to take more in.

Poor little mites :(

the mix that chester is makes him a minor mircle in my book!

sadly a lot of these people just see pound signs in these little pups - when I was a teenager in west london back in the 80's having a "papered up" staffie was as good as a sergio tachini tracksuit but unfortunately much longer lasting

I learnt so much from taking my Chester to the behavourist, I wished I'd talked to him before choosing my dog.

These behaviour problems are started by the breeder and only compounded when pups go to a owner who hasn't researched how to raise a dog. A lot of these rejected Staffies have been very poorly socialised and become dog and cat aggressive. Work on introducing to other animals should start at 4-6 weeks. By 12 weeks it's often too late. There is such a short window to get things right.  :( A good breeder should have this cracked by the time they even think about selling pups.  ;)

My Chester is just such a dog bred by idiots. Heaven knows what his breeders thought they were up to but Chester hasn't a clue how to say hello to other dogs. He bounds up to them full of joy and fun and throws himself at them like the orange man off the Tango ad. He'll do it to the wrong dog one day and have his throat removed for his trouble.

The staffies that were subject of this thread, I believe, are all in temp kennels being paid for by dog lovers. There are another 20 staffies past their PTS date listed on that forum this week. Next week there'll be more. I don't pay too much attention these days as I can't help and it makes me soooooo mad and so, so sad.  >:( :'(

As its a month later I can only imagine what has happened to these dogs  :(

I would have a staff but it would have to be used to cats, so I think it would have to be a young pup. Actually staffys are my favourte breed of dog.

Stats for pts have no thought in the minds of the people that are charging £200+  for these dogs, they dont care how many are pts, just how much they are making at the time  >:(

I think so many people that have no dealings with dogs do not know how to handle them and toy fight with them as pups

Nail on the head. They say NEVER play like that... The pup was 11wks when we took him in & 5mths & 3 1/2 stone when he had to go into another foster.
And in his re-homin adverts its now deinatly NO Cats. We tried ever so hard, even child gates didnt work., as cats used to walk thru the room & dog would chase,
he grabbed Rolo a few timesdidnt hurt, but pushed him alsong the floor in his paws, thats was the final straw seeing that.. But he was fantastic with people, and played with other dogs fine.
Maybe his parents had an agressive streak?

There's not really any control over the breeding of staffies and there should be - maybe one of us should start an online petition about it?

I think so many people that have no dealings with dogs do not know how to handle them and toy fight with them as pups and things and then they become agressive and they get rid of them - prob like the poor pup you ended up with fostering.

I know of at least two tenants who have got rid of them due to their behaviour and I used to watch the dogs actually going for other dogs throats!!

Its sooo sad to see, status symbol to a lot of people  :censored:  >:(

After our bully had to be pts (RIP bully baby) after 18mths of our home being doggieless, we tried another rescue/foster.
(altho we swore no more pets)

Our cats come round to a dog in the house, but this pup Staffie x started showin signs towards the cats as he got older.
Could not put my babies at risk, as they are placid & wouldnt slap the dog to put him in place.
We had him from 11wks and treat him like a baby.

We have said no-more foster dogs, as much as we would love to help out, after the last one, Pod now hid under the duvet, as we found
out when my oh family come with their german shepherd.

Sorry to come to this thread late but I agree about the problem with Staffie's - it is so heart breaking. In the deprived area I work I don't know of a family that have a dog other than a staffie and so many families get them as pups and then get bored and give them away - and then get another one!!!

The Edinburgh Cat & Dog home is always full of staffies and there is about another two or three rescues in the arra that deal only with staffies - such a shame as in the right hands they are wonderful dogs!!!

I actually helped at a place where strays were held for eight days - it is horrible. I ended up signing a dog out and finding it a home because I couldn't bear that his eight days were up.

My cats really don't like dogs so my house was mayhem while he was with me. I had a gate at the bottom of the stairs and the cats had upstairs and Pup had downstairs. It's quite a few years ago now though; I couldn't face working somewhere like that again.

They've all been doing this longer than me and have posted all the usual places. They certainly had already tried all the places I suggested. I just thought by some miracle we might have a purrs reader who could help.  :shy:

The problem is pound dogs get 7 days for something to be sorted and after that, depending on how nice the pound is, off they go for PTS without further delay. Sometimes they get an extra couple of days but not often. Last year over 7,000 ended going to the bridge this way. I gather Doris Banham started collecting the time-up poundies and boarding them for longer because there were cases of much loved lost or stolen pets who were PTS before their frantic owners could find them.  >:( Another reason to get your pet chipped!  :tired:

I'm not going to look at that thread anymore because there is nothing I can do.  :'( :'( :'(

I agree Julie - drives me mad the amount of staffies I see being out in the "urgent" section - or even on Freecycle. Have you posted on Pet Rescue UK?

And please everyone can you spread the word that the world has to STOP breeding Staffies as this is a senseless waste of life.  >:(

The situation (amount pts)  should be brought to the attention of those in authority and people be prosecuted for breeding.

I think we/they have tried everywhere in the phonebook now and only 3 dogs were saved. No further offers came through and the dogs have until 8.30am.

Doris Banham aren't taking in anymore dogs as they have over 100 Staffies in boarding kennels and the fees to threatening to finish them off.  :(

I am never  :censored: getting involved in dog rescue again as it really does seem worse than cats.  :'( :'( :'(

It's a case of opening up a thread in a forum and wishing I hadn't.  :'( But this one bloke is trying to save these dogs all on his own and we know how he feels from trying to sort cats out, don't we?  :shy:

All the usual avenues have been exhausted and all doggie rescues are up to their gills in Staffies. On the off chance that anyone know of a rescue who will take even just ONE more, please contact me so I can pass on details. This pound has already PTS 5 healthy dogs this week and there will be no extensions. These are all healthy, friendly dogs who have been thrown out or strayed and picked up by the dog warden.  :'(

And please everyone can you spread the word that the world has to STOP breeding Staffies as this is a senseless waste of life.  >:(
