We will be contacting our MP today as he hasn't signed.  The MP for the other end of our borough has not signed but I'm told that as a junior minister she isn't allowed to sign EDM's etc.  That means that her constituents don't have the same rites or facilities to put pressure on an MP as we have.

I don't know anything about your particular MP, Mark, but if anyone feels that his/her own MP may not have such issues as this as a priority, there's an All-Party Group on Animal Welfare which might be a productive one to contact...

This is what mine is like.....

How Barbara Keeley voted on key issues since 2001:

Very strongly for introducing a smoking ban.
Very strongly for introducing ID cards.
Very strongly for Labour's anti-terrorism laws.
Very strongly against investigating the Iraq war.

Dont agree with that last one!!!

I did it through writetothem.com and am just waiting on the confirmation email.

Can't say my MP is great on the animal rights front, so I don't hold out high hopes.

Needless to say, I didn't vote for him and can't wait until he's out.

Our MP used to be Tony Benn, like him or not he was a wonderful MP and always answered correspondence immediately, he is also a great cat lover which is a bonus. He once came to my house and I was talking about the cat pens and he said if ever you have a problem come to me. His son Hillary Benn now an MP  has a number of cats also. Our MP now is Paul Holmes from a different party and certainly a different kind of man. He is President for an animal rescue near here and there have been numerous complants to him about it yet as far as I know no one has ever received a reply although his wife phond me after she found out I and the RSPCA had received complaints about the care (or rather not care) of their cat.

To those who are not concerned or undecided, I attach a link of what snares can do. Thankfully, it is not visually gruesome so it will not churn your stomach. Hopefully. it will prick your herat and make you look at things more objectively and humanely.

Just to let you know my MP answered today;really quickly I thought! Basically saying he fully supported The League against Cruel Sports and had backed the most recent bill regarding this matter. Hurrah! He's an animal lover! :)

In case people think this is old news, it is and it isn't.

There was an early day motion during the last parliament but I believe that it did not get on to the agenda. It is my understanding that when that happens, it is not moved automatically forwarded to the new parliamentary year. Another EDM has to be submitted.

I wrote to my MP over the last snare EDM. He is a great constituency MP who I respect and once opened a Cattery Open Day for me when I was more actively fundraising. He brought his wife and 2 children and spent some quality time with us rather than a fleeting appearance.

As much as I respect him, I remain unhappy with his reaction that government and shadow cabinet ministers tend not to get involved in EDMs and that is more the province of back benchers. I intend raising it face to face rather than by email even though he knows me as I have actively supported him on hospital closures. I am also monitoring his questions and what he challenges in parliament which is now easily done with the aid of the internet.

The process of snaring is totally barbaric and cuts me right to the core.  :'(

Thanks to those who feel equally enraged. I cannot begin to understand animal lovers who can't be bothered or concerned to do their utmost in the interests of humanity if nothing else.

PS. If the late Tony Banks is looking at the EDM or this thread please instil the need to support it on parliamentarinas and ordinary folk alike

Thanks Pete. I detest snares sooo very much. I still have in my head awful pictures from animal aid meetings showing how  :censored: awful they are. WE tryed to lobby our parliment years ago but typically nothing happened!  :'(

Will put this as a sticky so there's no need to bump.

Could I ask animal lovers to take a few moments to look at this early day motion No. 158 in the attached link.

If your MP is not supporting this EDM, I would ask that you write to him to ask why.

Snares are vile, indiscriminate as they kill or maim any kind of animal who has the misfortune to be around (including cats) and are iin many cases illegal.  I would submit that have no place in any society that is civilised. Please stand up to be counted and consign this evil trade to the pages of history.

Thank You
