Antirobe are the best ABs for mouth infections, ask your vet about them  ;D

sooner better than later if the swelling is growing that rapidly it will make it very hard for him to breath and swallow, and may be causing headaches as well (think swollen facial glands to get some concept). Fingers crossed it is just a persistent infection...

up date on Tiggers swelling------------

it's not going down :(
he's had 2 antibiotic injections, so surley the infection must be going?
to be honest it looks like it's getting bigger! and coming under his eye!
i'm beginning to wonder if it's something else, think you know what i mean!!
a neighbour of mine hadto have her cat PTS, think it was last year? because he had a swelling on his nose, and it got as though it was affecting his breathing, it was cancer!

well he goes back to the vet on Friday, see what he says,

Chris.

Well, Tigger has been back to the vet today, and he's had another antibiotic injection, he's still got a bit of puss where the tooth was, and he has to go back again next Friday for a check up, hopefully that will be the last!!!
he really does'nt like going in the cat carrier, i have to push him in,then as we are walking up the road he starts howling!! but he soon settles down, when the vet has seen to him i don't have to push him in to it, he just walks in!! well he knows he's coming home :sneaky:

Hi,
Tigger has been to the vet today, and it was a broken tooth at the back, it was just a shell :(
anyway the vet pulled out what was left of it, and Tigger was sssoooo good, he had a local anesthetic and the vet did it in 2 goes, he was going to do it under general anesthetic but then he said, "he is such a fantastic cat, i can do it under local"!! and Tigger just sat there and let him do it ;D

earlier this year he had a bad fight with another cat and came in drooling blood from his mouth, so had to take him to the vet, he had a look and one of his front fangs was laying across the roof of his mouth, so the vet just yanked it out, and Tigger did'nt even flinch! the vet said "what a fantastic cat!!" but he said the tooth did'nt loosen cos of the fight, there was infection there also, so when we went today he must of remembered him.
he is so placid and laid back!!

at the moment he is asleep on the chair-----must be sleeping it off!! i have to take him back on Friday, if the swelling does'nt go down then he has to have it cleaned around the root under a general, the vet has given him an antibiotic injection and said that should last 2 days, so hopefully the swelling will go down.

it is such a weight off my mind though!

Good luck at the vets - any swelling needs checking out, if it is due to an abscess, the quicker it is caught, the easier it is to treat.
Please spay your cat

It depends on so many factors - whether you have pre-op bloods done, what anaesthetic is used, whether you have an iv drip, whether you have x-rays etc.  It could be anything from under £100 to £400.  I think a vet visit is in order then you can discuss it with the vet.  They should be able to give you a good estimate of any treatment so that you know what kind of figure you're dealing with.

It sounds like a trip to the vet is pretty much unavoidable...yes it can be expensive but it comes with the territory I'm afraid

Let us know how how Tigger gets on. Is he neutered by the way?

It depends, one tooth could come out for under a £100 but once under GA the vet may find he needs more out.
You must get him checked out for antibiotics and painrelief.

He could have an abcess from a bite.

cats and teeth
« Reply #1 on: December 10, 2007, 19:36:03 PM »
Hi,
i was wondering if anyone could tell me the approx charge for a cat to have teeth removed?
My Cat Tigger has a swelling on the side of his face, it could be teeth or infection, i've tried to have a look but he's not oppening his mouth!! :shy: what i could see was that his gum is'nt red or inflamed.
Earlier this yr he had a bad fight with another cat and when he came in there was blood dribbling from his mouth, so i took him to the vet, and he found a loose tooth [one of his front fangs] he said it was'nt the fight that loosened it, he had an infection, well he thought it could be an infection or a growth, he gave him antibiotics and they did the trick, so he has been ok since then, untill the other day i noticed this swelling, and it's on the same side!

don't get me wrong, i love my 2 cats, but i get worried taking them to the vet cos it's so expensive, and they wont go into the basket willinglly, i have to push them in!!! i am saying "them", but this is about Tigger.

thanks for your help,
Chris.
