What exactly is bad about vets now as iv not used them but the odd coment on here about them has got me wondering about them?

They are very expensive. Ass they usually use other businesses premises cats unless they absolutely cannot be moved have to be out of the surgery by 8 a.m.  so that means even if on a drip a cat may have to be transported many miles to its own surgery, especially difficult if the owner has no transport and has to use a taxi both to get there in the first place and then return early next morning to pick the little one up. Also at the moment there is a problem with their phones apparently each surgery has 2 phone lines but if one is in use  and you get through to the other line you just get cut off.  (At the Sheffield vets now anyway) This has been happening for a while now and I understand they are taking steps to rectify it. If that happend at our own vets it would I am sure been solved almost immediately.

My vets use a 24 hour clinic that also has its own patients, so they can stay as long as they need (Pebbles was there from Sat lunch to Mon tea) - admittedly it isn't that cheap. Their vets do 12 hour shifts (agreed amongst themselves) and vet nurses do 8 hour shifts.

Recently, when Sam was acting strangely (as though she had cystitis) I took her to a permanently stationed emergency vets in north Birmingham, near a friend of mine. They were great, and much more reasonable than Vets Now. Maybe we need more of these? They didn't use someone else's building in the way Vets Now do, but had their own, and their own vets. They were a lot cheaper and were better vets.
Cats were once gods; they have never forgotten this, nor have the people they own.

Well if those drums are right then loads more are gonna suffer with Vets Now grrrrrrrrrrrr.

I think there should be a proper emergency service set up that can keep those very sick cats in past 0800 and owners should not have to keep moving their pets who need to be on drips and in special care.

Basically a reform of the whole flipping system needs looking at.

I have heard a rumour via the jungle drums that it may come in soon vets will not be allowed to be on call after they have done a certain number of hours in the surgery. Bit like lorry drivers etc  but with no tachograph.  ;D If this is true then more vets I think will be going over to such delights as Vets Now, or will need to take on extra vets to cover call out hours.
