John (gummer) as clapton is now known

is doing fine thanks

He has had several jaunts in the garden. Eaten food that was put in front of him - even revisited a dish which he hasn't done in living memory

He retired to the kitchen a few hours ago and is sleeping it off. I think he is well on the mend. He was licking my hands and face again this morning

He may even have had a nasty taste in his mouth as his teeth were nasty, so certain foods seemed unpalatable to him. Hopefully that will all be behind you now ... fingers crossed

I hope not. I have to buy the equivilent of 3 cats food for for him as it is as he wastes so much (5 or 6 boxes a week!!) . I don't want to speak too soon but I have a feeling he s going to be less picky when his mouth is better so less waste

- If he got to the point where he couldn't eat on Sunday, I wonder how long it was playing up before it got too much for him? - Anyway, thats all behind him now. If he becomes easier to feed, I will try him on some decent food again as he turns his nose up a the good stuff at the moment.

I picked him up earlier and I could feel his spine so he can free feed until he as a belly

Yes and for the 1st time in ages, the dish was clean and he wanted another. He only ate less than 1/2 of the second one - will let him off this time

He doesn't seem too bad now and not stressed. He even went in the garden again so I will just keep a close eye. Luckily I work at home so can watch him 24/7

Poor Clapton. I have suddenly thought what about the Bach Flower Rescue Remedy. I know of quite a few people who have given it to their pets. It may just take away a bit of discomfort.

Thanks but I don't want to force the issue with the vet. I got this info from the manufacturers site
"Decreased blood supply to the kidney - this could tip a borderline patient into kidney failure"
It also said it is a NSAID, the leaflet with fortekor said NSAIDS should not be used with fortekor - I guess clapton is going to have to grin and bear it

I would try again and see if you can get some painkilling drops from the vet, as you say it will be much better for Clapton. When Archie had his tail trouble I was given some and it made such a difference, even thoughit said on the box they were for dogs! Good luck. Alison

I guess the metacam is wearing off as he is looking very sorry for himself right now

I will see how he goes but I don't want him to go through the stress of another visit to get more metacam. I wish the vet would have treated me like an adult and given me some drops for him

If I take him back and the vet gives him a jab, its no worse than me giving him drops

I'm glad Clapton is doing well after the dental. Eating and wanting to go outside is usually a good sign. Last year, both Samson and Buddie were in for dentals. Buds had a clean and polish and Sam had one extraction and polish. I think it cost about £240 and that included the pre-op bloods for both of them.

I was saying that it was the same as humans but didn't take into account the 1st consultation and jab, also the GA & bloods so it was no more than expected really. Well he won't be having any more dentals

Clapton said he would be sick to the back teeth with dentals if he had any

can't they, especially when they're feeling sorry for themselves lol!

Can't remember exactly how much max's dental was a few years ago, he had 2 extractions and a scale/polish, antibiotics etc, I think it was about £120-£130 ish?

Lovely building by the way, I love places like that. We went to Windsor for a day out recently and there's a lovely old tea rooms near the castle, I call them higgledy piggledy buildings, but they are beautiful, so full of character.

It could be cos he ate so much yesterday MArk, he might not be hungry yet, I dont think Metacam does wear off that quickly. Plus, offering so many different foods isn't the best route. Can't offer much advice with the dropper, I have always been given tablets after dentals.

He won't eat this morning. I can only guess that the metacam has worn off. I have tried 3 different foods. I won't push him but just see how it goes. I'm a bt worried about putting the dropper for antibiotics in his mouth with sore gums.

Am glad to hear he will be fine with his teeth now, and that his numbers have improved. IF he doesn't like dry food, I wouldnt' worry too much, wet food is better for his kidneys anyway.

I think my vet is expensive but he has posters etc saying they only use the best etc. "gold standard" anaesthesia etc.

oops - no

I dropped him off and went to canterbury for lunch. Did some shopping (boring stuff , except some t shirts in H&M) bought him some nice food in sainsburys and it was time to pick him up. I took this pic of one of my favourite buildings in canterbury that has just been restored. Couldn'y get it all in as the road is narrow

4 teeth out. Anaethesia, 2 metacam jabs, anibiotics for a week (liquid), bloods (which they do anyway). ~Came to £199.00

I wonder if I can claim? - I guess its existing - although they were OK when he had his last dental.
