He thinks there may be a chance of the cat having a disease that will be passed on to our cats and i cant afford to get the stray cat tested  :( also ours are indoor and it would be tricky letting one cat be indoor/outdoor  and the others being indoor only .
I Will continue to feed him for as long as he wants to eat , id never not feed an animal or anyone for that matter and even if had had 20 strays turning up id feed them all , if i could get him tested for fiv then id keep him no matter what hubby said or didnt say as i feel dead privillage this little guy wants to keep visiting us and feel everything happens for a reason .
im so excited at the fact im going to be working for cp soon. :Luv:

How much would it cost to get the cat tested?

Some cats are happy to be indoors even after being outdoor cats.

Smoke we weren't told but she wasn't spayed when we adopted her so very shortly she wanted out and let everyone know. Once we got her spayed she's not bothered.

Penguin has been out before (sneaky so and so) when I was in the US but he's not upset at being ketp in.

Is there anyway you could speak to the CP and explane that you might like to keep him ?
Would they pay for him to be tested ?

The stray that is now living with us was un -neutered but i have NOT had him tested.
My reason behind this is it wouldnt make any difference as he would still be living with us wether he was positive or negative.
because -
The chances of him passing it on to my cats is so slim.
FIV is past on through mating and fighting and the fact that he is now neutered there is hardly any chance of him passing it to anyone.

This is what the Celia Hammond Trust say about mixing FIV positive and FIV negative cats

"Many of CHAT's long-term foster homes, staff and volunteers, have a happy mix of FIV positive and FIV negative cats. Our sanctuary in the country currently has forty-three long-term FIV positive cats living amongst the other feline residents. Regular blood tests over the last twelve years have shown that they have not infected the FIV negative cats, even though they spend much time grooming each other and sharing food bowls and litter trays."

I would wait for CP too.

Why is hubby so dead against keeping him ?

If you can continue feeding and giving shelter then it would be better than leaving him at the vets. If they rang you then they obviusly havent forgotten about him  ;D

10 on a list is very short!

I agree, how lucky is that?  I get requests to bring in at leaset 10 most days and as posted a week ago I had requests to bring in 20 in 2 hours.

hi everyone sorry ive not been on to update
i had a call from cp asking how the cat was and i said the lady from another rescue said i had to take him to vet and leave him there and lady at cp said she wasnt happy with that and if i could bare with her she would take him asap
ive been feeding him every day so at least i know he gets at least one good meal aday and he isnt hungry
last night the little buggar must of eat else where  :evillaugh: as i got his chicken and his purina dry food ready for him and all he wanted was cuddles  :Luv: it worries me how friendly he is incase he goes and befriends the wrong people who may hurt him :'(
he cant stop purring and showing me is tummy wanting me to tickle him and every time i go in and leave him there i feel really upset  :'( he is so handsome and i love him to bits ive spoken to hubby about us adopting him and he isnt having none of it , in my shed theres an old table and on top of that ive put a single duvet for him but he doesnt want to go there all he wants is fuss and attention , im in two minds about what to do at the moment shall i take him to that vets or shall i wait for cp lady?
every day i worry about him and worry what if something happens to him
ive kinda given him a name and he likes it as he always purrs when i call it out  :Luv:
my daughter went and picked him up and said " can we have him now mummy lol "
seeing him really makes me smile he is so much more friendly than my cats lol .

ive rang cp and they are full and have 10 on waiting list but another lady who works in a local rescue has told me i have to go to a vet clinic ( she gave me the name and address) and say ive had this stray visiting for a few weeks im unable to feed him any longer and leave him there
then they will ring the lady and ask her to come and look at the cat and she will take him and put him up for adoption

If you can continue feeding him while he moves up the list it would be alot better, although people dont turn cats away once they have been dumped it puts a real strain on them and the cats often end up in a dog crate because there is literally no where to put them  :(

Give it time !!

Took me 6mths to be able to stroke Tramp and now he is a lap cat (and neutered!!)

I would make up a bed for him somewhere and keep feeding him (put a worming tablet in some food too)

As for Hubby, ignor him   Men should do as they are told

My OH knows he would stand no chance of telling me not to help a cat in need, he just puts up with it. I have one in the house right now lol.

I'm not suggesting you start an argument of course.

Do try to get him sorted  :)

Sound advice Dawn, sadly most people wait until the little one  ill then decide to so something. You could also take it to a vet and ask them to scan it.
Each day you delay in ringing a rescue to place on the list another 20 or 30 are in front of it. Perhaps you will care to read the found advice on my site., address below, obviously the telephone numbers will be different for you.

He sounds a little cherub  :Luv:  It might be worth getting onto the RSPCA or CP and asking about getting a voucher to get him neutered.  I would also put a paper collar on him with your phone number and see if anyone contacts you.  Making a bed in the shed is a good idea and at least he'll have somewhere warm to sleep.  Well done for looking after him  :blow kiss:

What area are you in?

we have been having visits from a gorgeous b&w male cat he isnt neutered( suprise suprise )

i heard my neighbour swearing and shouting f**k off and i went to see what was happening and i saw him shout at the cat and tell him to f off back home  :censored:
ive been feeding him  :Luv: at midnight last night i was out in my pjs feeding him slices of  chicken well 6 slices in total  i love him he reminds me of a cat we had when i was a kid who went missing and we never found him  :(
he is so fluffy he looks so cuddly , he doesnt trust me enough to let me stroke him at the moment but give it time  :evillaugh:
my hubby is dead againest me feeding him and has said he doesnt want him in the house  >:(
i was thinking of making a bed for him in the shed in case he is a stray and hasno where else to go  :( :(
