Salem needs a sponsor, Cat Rescues Nottingham

As stated in the forum rules, this post is not connected directly with Purrs in our hearts. It is however, a rescue run by a lady who is working very hard to ensure the safety of cats locally to her.

This post is to try and secure sponsorship for one of the cats in rescue charge called Salem. He came to Cat Rescues Nottingham after his owners were made homeless and they had no option but to find a rescue space for him due to having to move in with relatives. The decision was rather heartbreaking for them and, I'd think, for Salem too.

Salem developed an open wound on his neck, and after a visit to the vets with his previous owners who were told to bathe the wound in salt water things still didn't seem quite right. On arrival at the rescue, another vet visit occurred and the rescue were told it was a burst abscess; Salem was put on antibiotics. The treatment continued for a fortnight, where there was STILL no improvement - so the wound was cleaned out and Salem was prescribed Antirobe, which again proved unsuccessful. Finally, a new vet took a biopsy, which clarified why Salem wasn't healing. He was diagnosed with cancer but when they'd done the biopsy enough of the area should have been taken to remove the cancer.

Salem is still troubled by the wound on his neck and although he is currently receiving antibiotic injections and having daily cleans with antibacterial wash in the affected area, he keeps opening the wound up again. There's concerns that the original opinion regarding removal was inaccurate and it wasn't as successful as the rescue had hoped. This means that Salem is rather a costly charge, but the rescue policy is to try and help a cat all they can, taking into account their quality of life.
