OMG I feel on top of the world and feel like I've done something really wonderful.  :yayyy: :chicken: :yesss: :happy dance:

My visit went really well.I phoned the RSPCA as soon as I got home and gave them them the ok and I'm happy to say that David will be in his forever home in the next few hours.

It was a couple in their late 40s and they were finally letting their daughter have a cat now that she is 13.

Good on you for volunteering for homechecking, hopefully you will help many cats get their forever home. I find it harder when I dont know the cats or the people though, but I am used to homechecking for my fosters when I will have been the one vetting them in the first place.
Please spay your cat

I'm sure you'll be an ace homechecker although you'll have to remember that no home will spoil a cat quite as much as Bonnie gets spoilt so try not to mark them down!

Oooh, good luck Mary  I'm doing my first homecheck next Saturday for Duchess and Bramble. I didnt do one for Juliette, because the lady had previously been homechecked and had cats from us before. I've probably got another fosterer coming with me for the first one.

Thanks everyone.  I've always wanted to volunteer to do something but new I would be crying all the time if I was working really closely with the animals so this is just ideal.

The training was 2 1/2 hrs Mark.  We watched videos and said what we thought was wrong and then we were told all sorts about the RSPCA and how each branch has their own wages etc. to find and what the Headquarters do and don't do - very interesting. We were asked if we wanted to shadow someone but I said I was confident enough on my own.

There are some other courses that we can attend if we wish to - she said there is a really exciting one about fleas and worms    She said it's good fun actually.

Good luck Mary. The first one is always the hardest. I found it odd going in strangers homes - but you will find that people bend over backwards to be nice to you when they think you have the power of aye or nay  :evillaugh:

Have you done a trial one tagging along with someone else? - I never got to. I can't remember exactly what happened but I ended up going in at the deep end. I never went on a training course, although Sharon briefed me about what to ask & look out for.

DO NOT BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER ANIMALS DIE

I believe I am not interested to know whether Vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesn't. To know that the results are profitable to the race would not remove my hostility to it.  Mark Twain

I recently went on a training course at the RSPCA so I could do home checks of people wanting to adopt a pet.

I got a phone call today and my 1st visit is Wednesday afternoon.  The people I will meet want to adopt David.  He was taken to the vet as a stray and ended up in the RSPCA in Halifax.

I'm getting really giddy and so pleased I can do a little something to help out.
