He still yelps a bit if you catch him under the tail when you pick him up , but he seems to be improving all the time. I will keep on with the metacam for another two days as the vet suggested and if he's not 100% by then he's going back.

Poor Jerry

If you're worried about him ring the emergency vet for a chat about it and he should be able to reassure that it's ok to wait until tomorow.

Well I decided to leave him for today , and actually he's been improviing bit by bit. He has also starting licking the bse of his tail a lot more this afternoon , and is jumping back up at door handles again so I think he's on the mend.

He has just settled own to some biscuits with Gizzy and Beavy! :Luv2:

I agree too that if he is even a little better than last night then wait till tomorrow and speak to normal vet cos anti biotics take sometime to get in the system and also its good he doesnt want to go out, cos thats best for hi, at the moment

I agree, if as you say he seems a bit better it may take a day or two to see improvement so long as eating and otherwise ok I'd see how he goes.

I wouldnt go back to the vets today, and leave things to get into his system first. It is actually good that he doesn't want to go through the catflap, as he should be staying in anyway till you know he is 100%
Please spay your cat

Ahhh poor Jerry ... if he is eating and moving round OK I would probably just leave him today and then speak to your regular vet tomorow.

Sending lots of get well soon vibes

Before I read Rosella's post I was about to post saying abscesses under the tail are quite common. Also blocked anal glands can be painful. Hope he is feeling better today

Yes he would need to be sedated for an Xray , and yes , he has had his breakfast!! The emergency vet is lovely , and he is insured.....................oh I just dont know what to do! :(

Ring the vet Kirst. I can't see them sedating him for Xray unless very urgent. They can however make him vomit beforehand if really necessary.  The vet is the one to speak to of course.  I would however withhold his brekkie tomorrow in case your own vet wants to do an Xray and can fit him in.

He won't want to go through cat flap as it will hurt his tail.  Reminds me of going on hols years ago leaving a mate to look after Tom and Gandi. When we got home she said Gandi just wouldn't come in the house for the last few days.  I discovered a large abscess at base of his tail which is why he wouldn't use the flap.

It's horrible when you don't know what has happened to them.  He more or likely has just fallen out/off something.

Oh dear Kirst... what a worry. What was emergency vet like?  Would he need to be sedated for an Xray as, if so, has he eaten?  Assume painkiller is Metacam. It's wonderful stuff.    to you and Jerry.

Well he seems a BIT better today - but we didnt have any of the usual door handle jumping activities last night and he is still very sensitive around the base of the tail area. He can move his tail if he has to but he doesnt really want to , and he oesnt seem to want to go out of the cat flap.

I ont know whether to take him back to the emergency vet today or wait until tomorow and go to the regular vet. In himself he is fine , eating , using the tray , playing etc etc.

Vibes must be working (or the painkiller!) He has just tipped his bowl of water over and has eaten a pouch and is now trying to kill Gizmo. Im guessing he wasnt happy about going to the vets.  :sneaky:

Why do they insist on scaring us like this! :-:

Lots of healing vibes from his litter mates in Kent Apollo and Memphis.. Wishing their big brother a speedy recovery..

Kirstly actually Memphis came in the other day from my brothers home, with a damaged pad on his foot, blood everywhere.. Damaged pad that we fixed up.. but no vet visit required... We think he may of been chased by something though.. we saw them both crossing the frozen fish pond today.. Oh my did we have a fright.. we wouldnt want them to do that too often!
Cannot save the world, but if everyone does something we can have a jolly good job trying too....

Vet dash tonight - Jerry has hurt himself!
« Reply #1 on: January 10, 2009, 22:19:04 PM »
Just got back form the emergency vets - when we got home form the cinema (about 8pm) Jerry was sat in his hammock , but then he jumped down and flopped in front of Mr Kirst. When he picked him up he yowle din pain. :'( We noticed his tail was limp , and it was obviously painful around his back end. He was walking ok, eating and went for a wee but we whipped him off to the vets anyway

His tail doesnt appear to be broken , but its very tender at the base and he scratched the life out of me when he had to have his temperature taken.

He has been sent home having had a painkiller injection and an antibiotic (in case he has been bitten) and he has to take metacam for three or four days. If he is no better tomorrow he has to go back for Xrays.

Can you all send some healing vibes for my little ginger tiger please???
