they are off to the vets tomorrow to be spayed so I'll mention it to the vet when they are checked in  :briggin: - more worried about that than the cut now!!!

It might be worth a little visit to the vets tomorrow for an antibiotic jab and a quick check just be on the safe side  ;)

It seems ok this morning - I've been putting the powder on it . the cut it difficult because its a small flap of skin - I've managed to get it to stick back down after cleaning and it seems to be holding in place now  It still looks very sore, red and angry but doesn't seem to be stopping her acting like a loon (they thank aunty Tan for the laser toy btw  :innocent:). I know cats dont Shwon signs of pain but what signs should i look for if there's signs of infection

Honey is a natural healer for small cuts and grazes, providing you can stop them licking it off ;)

Poor baby

Cuts in paw pads are tricky because, like Helen says, they aren't in a good place for healing.  Mosi cut his somehow once and kept getting bits of litter stuck in it.  I bathed it and picked out the bits of litter  ;D and it did heal ok eventually.

How's Bella's foot now?  Don't be surprised if it opens up again as foot pads are prone to it according to my vet.

Riley cut his foot a few weeks ago, there was a lot of blood so I rang the vets and got an appointment for a few hours later.  By the time I got to the vets the beleeding had stopped, the cut was miniscule and the vet asked if that was the only reason I'd taken him  (he only ended up charging me £8.) :shy: He glued it and said that if glue didn't exist it wouldn't need stitches or anything but that he would have put a bandage on to stop the wound getting anything in it but said that even with the glue it might open up again, which it did and he left a second set of bl00dy footprints!

well i rushed off to PAH this morning and bought some of those cottom bud things - think they might have off though because they didn't go very moist. I also bought something called 'antibacterial powder' that seems to have dried it up for a while anyway dunno if this was the right stuff to use though - it just says 'soothes dries and protects' just hoping it prevents infection more than anything

I have some of that powder and it's quite good

I'll remember that black tea thing Debs, I'm into natural cures but first time I've heard of that.

Keep an eye on it but as long as the bleeding's stopped that's the main thing. Maybe try bathing it in cooled boiled water just to make sure it's clean. Cooled black tea is also very good as an antiseptic for wounds so could could bathe in that too. Was a really good suggestion from the old vet we used when I was growing up- he was real old school and used to recommend that everything be as natural as possible. We used to have a cat called Ben who would always fight and get infected bites (at least once a month! He was top cat!) and the cooled black tea did wonders at preventing infection because it is a natural antiseptic.

have you tried applying gentle pressure?  this stops bleeding and my vet allows atiny bit of Savlon or Germoline not a lot just a dab, she has recommended for this for Byron's warty scabs.

Dont use human solutions for cats please, unless a vet says OK....you may do more harm than good.

Sounds ridculous but try powdered sugar ... sugar stops mouth bleeding and might work on a paw (tip given to me by a DENTIST when my friends son knockd his tooth out!!)

Don't panic too much, I'm sure she knows it was an accident  I know when we had our old dog, he would very often do this as he hated having his claws cut and so we made sure that we got some styptic- either in pencil form or you can get animal styptic powder or little pads. The pads can be bought from PAH and look like little cotton buds but when placed on the wound, they encourage clotting and stop bleeding.
If you have a PAH near you, they will definately stock them and will do the trick :)
They are called 'Blood stop swabs' and look like this...

Last night I cut the girls claws. this is never usually a problem but as I was doing on of Bellas she moved and I accidentally cut into her paw pad. I cleaned it with some warm water but it just keeps bleeding. I've kept her in her room overnight but its still bleeding this morning (when they have cut it before its scabbed over the following day) I dont think its deep and there's not loats of bllod just little splotges whereever she walks. Its sunday morning now - Any ideas what I can 'do' with it
