Here is a bit i found for the best way to play with the Da birdie

Interactive toys are used for play therapy; the best one is called Da Bird. It's a fishing pole toy with a unique feather configuration at the end that sounds like flapping wings. It's totally irresistible!
It's not enough to dangle the toy while watching TV. You have to be the bird! You've probably seen your cat perched in the window watching real birds. Now, let the cat follow a pattern of flight around the room long enough to get completely involved in it: with rapt attention, tensing muscles, and a little twitch of the tail. Talk to the cat in a light praising tone.

At some point, swoop the toy close enough for the cat to make a grab. When he catches you, play dead, but keep gentle tension on the string. When the cat relaxes, you make your escape! Fly around a bit, then allow yourself to be caught again. This whole routine can be repeated, of course, ad infinitum, until the cat is finished. But watch out for the "second wind!"
This routine should truly tire the cat out.

The final step is a high protein snack.  This completes the natural cycle of hunt-catch-kill-eat.
Once the session is over, put away the special play therapy toy. It only comes out for these special sessions. Regular daily play therapy work will make your cat happier and more confident, and less likely to manifest stress in unpleasant and unwanted ways.

I'm lazy, so I bought several Cat catcher wands, one for each accessory, so I didn't have to keep changing them over - resulting in a surfeit of mice.

I only said last night about buying another wand as fergus gets so excited by da mousey that Polly doesn't even get a look in. Does anyone else have this problem? I try and let him have his play and then try to hold him for all of 2 seconds whilst I try and play with Polly, but he just goes berserk!

I said this last night actually as Jess took an interest last night.

I literally have to move the tube a small amount, hardly making a noise at all and they'll both appear from no where, how they hear it I don't know?!!!

Try quoting this post, it's just me 'talking' so you don't need to do anything other than click the quote button.  You'll be able to see the coding before you post it so it will hopefully make my last post a bit clearer.

Oh, and to keep this on topic.. Isn't da bird great  ;D

Yes, Da bird is great - but I'm an idiot! I think I'll just stick to simple text. But thanks for trying to help - it's appreciated!

Almost! I guess you deleted your bit of the quote but you need to leave in the first bit so if you wanted to quote me from my last post you'd leave in....

[quote author=Tiggy's Mum - Helen link=topic=19002.msg323063#msg323063 date=1224598427  BLAH BLAH BLAH  [/quote

I had to leave out the square bracket at the end of [quote author=Tiggy's Mum - Helen link=topic=19002.msg323063#msg323063 date=1224598427 and [/quote as otherwise it wouldn't have shown the coding.

If you're just quoting a post that is just one person 'talking' then it really is as simple as pressing insert quote.  The only reason it didn't work properly for you is because you were quoting a post that had a two way conversation in and you took out the coding for both 'conversations'.

Hope this makes thing clear... as mud  :evillaugh:

:evillaugh:  All you do is click the quote button (top right) of the post you want to quote.  If you only want to quote part of it you just delete the words you don't want. Easy peasy  ;D

I'm still not sure about this....

I don't seem to get the encased in purple bit?????

My two boys will bite through any thread, and I worry about them ingesting it if I were distracted, so I use the Da Birdie accessories with the Cat Catcher mouse wand from Purrs, which has a thin wire rather than a thread.  Play lasts a lot longer because the boys can't just bite through the thread and run off with the accessory. They love Da Birdie and Da Mouse best, but Da Sparklie is pretty close behind. They also love Da Mouse on or off the wand. I'm lazy, so I bought several Cat catcher wands, one for each accessory, so I didn't have to keep changing them over - resulting in a surfeit of mice.

Thanks to Hannah, I have finally experienced this wonder toy recently.  She also kindly sent me a mouse attachment along with it.  However I am being pretty daft with it, is there a certain technique to play with it?  I mean with the feathers you get the maximum effect when you swing it about in a large sweeping motion, to have it flutter in its unique way, is there such a trick also to the mouse attachment?  :-[

btw awesome picture, Rosella!!  :wow:

What a great picture Rosella.  Our birdie is now down to 2 very tatty feathers, so will have to go and rummage through the Purrs shop methinks.

We've had a couple of wrapped round tail incidents, Charlie gets so excited!  He must be a thug ask Tan how many Da Birds I have ordered in the last 8 months!  I swap attachments too he is just getting fed up with the sparkly one so it's time for a change again.  Happy playtime

..... also Freddie somehow got string wrapped around his tail  and went running up the stairs to OH's office. He got stick caught between desk and chair and string broke. Ouch!  No unsupervised play here either ever since but they do so love Da Bird & Da Mouse.  Think I might attach sparkly thing today as haven't tried that one yet  :)

I'm sure Jess will come round to loving it soon too

Flipping heck thanks for the warning Suzanne, I'm paranoid about leaving toys out with the boys in case they eat/chew/destory things!

My boys get bored with it very quickly, but they do love it provided I change the attachments regularly.  They've been through several and have all the attachments.

I will add my usual warning for those who weren't around here last summer.  Mosi ran off with it and chewed through the thread very quickly.  He had to be rushed to the vet and have an emergency operation to try and find the stuff he had swallowed.  It is such thin string/thread that they can chew through it very quickly.  Shortly after our little drama, I was sitting on the sofa holding it (during a lulll in proceedings) and suddenly noticed that Mosi was chewing the string.  In about 10 seconds he was virtually through it - it was hanging by the slenderest of threads.  So be very careful with cats that like to run off with it.  I won't leave my boys unsupervised with it for even a few seconds now.

Da Bird is simply the best invention ever.

Jameson has destroyed through 2 so far, so need to get a new feather replacement soon.

OMG Milo adores it! Jess isn't sure!

Milo has got to the point that when I put it away he sits and crys at the dining room door (where da bird goes)

On saturday I was cleaning up with the dining room door open and he grabbed it in his mouth and dragged it into the lounge dropped it as his daddies feet and sat there till Hubby played with him.
