Stuart I just read "I haven't left" and it started me off again.  I think I managed to get through yesterday without tears, but that has done it for today.  What a lovely poem, and so very touching.

Its almost a week since I lost Crookie, and every time I walk past her little cross I say hello, and goodnight....I'm missing her so much.

Robbo came back home today in a small engraved wooden casket, he's sitting in the conservatory window keeping watch on the birdies that land on the grass  :(.

RIP Robbo...he sounds like my wee Crookie...unwanted until she stumbled into my chaotic house...and we were unsepreable....She went today, I had to let her go, but I haven't stopped crying since....the pain and making the decision....the vet agreed but it doesn't help does it?

She had grown so weak and thin...it was time...but its so hard.

So I am so sorry for your loss....and I hope your pain heals quickly, and your memories never fade.

Thanks guys and girls for the lovely comments, the poem was really nice and summed pretty much everything up so thankyou. Robbo really was part of the family and I keep expecting to see him when I reverse the car on the drive or at night when he used to come down to the computer and sit on my knee. He was special but it would of been cruel and selfish to make him suffer any pain and at least he didnt know what was going to happen when he went to the vets that day.

Oh Greg I'm so so sorry to hear that Robbo has passed over to the bridge

He was clearly a special boy and decided you were going to be his family.  He was lucky to have found you and you were also lucky to have been chosen by such a little character.

Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss.

RIP Robinson ... a special little man who clearly knew his own mind and who will be sorely missed by the people that loved him most.  Play hard at the bridge little one.

Really sorry to hear this Greg   Robbo sounds like an amzing little cat, he'll be safe and sound at Rainbow Bridge by now   Still can't help but smile at the pic with his hat on.

You did a really brave thing for him

The Greatest Gift

I always knew this time would come,
From the very instant our eyes first met.
How I loved you then! How I love you now!
I made a promise then, and I will keep that promise now...
You will not suffer from a pain that will not heal;
You will not know the loss of a life remembered, now gone.

It is for me alone to make this decision,
The price for the bright joy and pure laughter
You brought me during the time we shared.
I am the only one who can decide when it is time.
When my hope dies, and my fear rides high,
Just when I need you most, I must let you go.

It is for you alone to tell me when you are ready
For without your guidance, I will not know
When to lay my grief, my guilt, my anger
My sorrow and my selfish heart aside
And give you this last gift, this greatest gift.
Your eyes will speak to mine, and I will know.

The pain of this moment is excruciating.
Tears stream down my face in a river of sorrow.
And my heart drowns in a pool of grief.
For you have spoken and I have listened,
And unlike other decisions I have made
This one brings no relief...no comfort...no peace.

For if there´s one thing you´ve taught me,
If there´s only one thing I´ve learned...
Unconditional love has a condition after all,
I must be willing to let you go, when you speak to me
I must be willing to help you go, if you cannot go alone.
And I must accept my pain so you can be free of yours.

Go easily now, go quickly now,
Do not linger here, it is time for you to leave.
Go find your strength, go find your youth.
Go find the ones who've gone before you.
You are free to leave me now, free to let your spirit soar
Rest easy now, your pain will soon be gone.

I pray I will find comfort in my memories...
In the dark and lonely days ahead.
I cannot say I will not miss you, I cannot say I will not cry.
For only my tears can heal my broken heart.
But, I promise you this; as long as I live,
You will live, alive in my mind, forever in my heart.

So I give you this last gift, all I have left to give,
And this will be my greatest gift...sending you away.
It is the measure of my unconditional love...
For only the greatest love can say,
"Good-bye, go find the bridge, we'll meet again,
Loving you has been the greatest gift of all."

Forever and Always... Until Rainbow bridge....

RIP Robbo

Little Robbo was put to sleep earlier today, he was 12/13yrs old and still a kitten at heart. Come to anyone for a bit of fuss, had a real personality and always liked to be the centre of attention.

The story of Robinson:

My family moved down from Scotland 14yrs ago when I was around 8 years old to here in Derbyshire, we were only down here a year when we first met Robinson in our garage on Haloween after a party, he was just a tiny kitten and we thought he had escaped but when we seen him bobbing about the estate in the weeks that followed we began to realise he lived just down the road. Over the years robinson began to spend more and more time at our house as he preferred people and his own house had around 4 cats in, he much preferred human company and we quite liked him hanging round the house. My dad always had a fear of cats since he was young, yet little robbo even managed to turn round his feelings on cats and slowly he spent more time in the house, at first just in the kitchen but he slowly managed to work himself into the rest of the house. We got to know the owners and found that Robinson had a brother Smokey (hence their names  :P) who also began spending a little time round our house thought most of the time he came round looking to go hunting with robbo who would always much rather just curl up on someones knee infront of the tv  :). Everything was going fine and Robbo was always the picture of health, but the family that owned robinson began to have troubles and due to this robbo never really got seen to by the vet in the last 3/4 years. Eventually the biggest fear happened when their house went up for sale and planning to move away :(. This was when the owners then suggested we took on Robinson as he much preferred spending time round our house and we would really miss us, so we gladly adopted him and poor little smokey went off with them (we would of been just as happy to take on Smokey, but they wanted to take him). We noticed he had a little mouth problem at the time and we took him to the vet around 2 weeks after we had him. That's when we found out he had gingivitis  :(, for almost a year he was on steroids trying to battle the disease and all his teeth had to be taken out over the year, but still robbo smiled on kept good weight and always looked clean, we often found him running up trees and bringing birds back despite not having any teeth  :), he loved his last year and despite his illness we did our best for him and he never really looked in much pain. My dad was diagnosed with cancer the same year and sadly died in December of last year, little robbo helped me through that period as you can always turn to a cat without them judging you and he was always happy to see someone and get some fuss.
Thats why on friday when robbo wouldn't come inside and hid in the ivys I knew something was terribly wrong, we took him to the vet the next day who suggested a biopsy and when he was taken in today we didnt know that was going to be the last time we would see him. His gingivitis/tumour had spread over the roof of his mouth and face and must of been unbearably painful, two vets looked in his mouth including a mouth expert (there's a term I just cant remember) who said it was one of the worst cases he had seen. There was nothing they could do apart from remove the entire tumor but that would mean removing a large section of his face and it wouldnt definatly work and we just could'nt of put poor robinson through that so whilst he was under anaethsetic we took the heart breaking decision to let him stay asleep  :'(.

We're both going to really miss him and its been an extremly difficult year but least we know robbo is resting easy now.

His most famous pic...

And here he was just last night....  :(

RIP Robbo, you were one special cat  :(
