in all honesty the prices don't come as a shock... there are many people cashing in on the so called 'kitten shortage'... or should I say a lot of people realising that they can make money from exploiting the kittens rather than handing them over to rescues.

We had moggies going not far from us last summer from £100 - £200.  Rediculous and nothing but exploitation to line their pockets!!

I'm doing this because I can afford to take them in and get good homes for them throuhg a branch of CP and have a very good discount at the vet and one who will do what I ask and wait for the vouchers from Cp - this is not my local CP as they aren't interested in us helping unlike our old branch who still want our help.

I think whilst we would all like to help and give advice sometimes with all the best will in the world it just doesn't get through

The ones who are lucky are the ones we can help but it takes a lot of willing people and at the end of the day unfortunately money is a big consideration to.

Although I agree that Purr should in no way become a "target force" I do think that posting the ads has helped cats in need. It's only next week that Liz is taking in an un-neutered male and pregnant female because I posted the ad on here and asked for help in the area. Like I said before, I tend to only do it when I feel that the cat is in real danger. The bulk of kittens sold we can't do much about and I don't think posting on here helps, but if people want to reply to the ads with advice and concern then I think it's only a good thing...  ;)

Ladies I believe you misunderstood what I meant. I didn't imply it would be linked to Purrs, only that Purrs should not be the "open" medium.. ie... to avoid posting the ads on the forum.

That was all that was meant. Apologies if it was not clear.

I don't think anyone was implying it would be linked to purrs!

In reality, it would be quite a time consuming job as it would involve monitoring all the kitten sales, noting down phone numbers/emails and seeing if one was repeated. Then a visit to 'view' with a bit of friendly digging around and chatting and maybe third strike out!

Probably would'nt achieve much..... oh well....

Although it was suggested, i wasnt think about doing monitoring of all kittens sales, I was talking about  the adds that advertise kittens that are too young or un-spayed females being sold -
But as usual somethings are always meet with disapproval !
So best no one posts anything where a cat/kitten maybe needs help

Whilst its great you guys want to help and offer assistance to people who, frankly, are either ignorant or don't care (rather you than me, I'd want to bat their heads against walls!), I would please keep Purrs at a distance from it. If only that our goal is to raise funds for rescues, we don't want people to see our forum as a "targetting" forum which could have negative effects on our fundraising.

By all means PM each other as Michelle suggested, but please avoid posting ads on the open forum if you can help it.

 :thanks:

I emailed 2 people last week who were selling 6wk old kittens
and both removed their adverts and are going to wait another 2wks

The first one hadnt put how old the kittens were but i could see from the phote they were young so i emailed and asked how old they were...when they replied and said almost 6wks old so i replied and said that i wouldnt buy a kitten that age as it was too young...anyway to cut a long story short after a couple of emails back and forward they thanked me and removed the advert !!

I come up with all sorts of stories (depends on the advert) sometimes i have breed predigree cats for 25 years but now given up  Sometimes i can be a VN or a retired one  and sometimes i'm just dear old me...

I did get my first horrible reply the other day though telling me to go and do some disgusting things to my parents.

As i'm not working at the moment i'm free to help. I tend to target the adult cats that are being sold and have had a fantastic response from people and helped many with the questions they need to ask during home visits etc. I've not done many kitten ones as I don't think you get as good a feedback, but i'm willing to help in neccesary.  :)

I have not heard back from her either !!

Re: the vigilante group, I think that is a good idea  ;D
I am happy to make phone calls and send emails...at the end of the day what have i got to lose ?
Sometimes you can get great outcomes - Look at the one on here the other day, After a phone call from me the women has had one cat spayed and the other one is due to be done this week !!

To be honest the benefit thing is not my concern....the cats are !!

Maybe we could have a section on here where adverts that are found (where help or advice is needed) could be listed OR they could just be PM'ed to me and anyone else who wants to help ??

I saw this advert as well and e-mailed her to offer neutering assistance so that she didn't have to have "too many cats and kittens". I've not heard anything back. I'm nowhere near (Leeds) but I did give the CP helpline number and said what we could offer...

I've given up on many people recently as they just don't care  >:(

Everyone has the right to do what they want within the laws of the society they live in.
If  thse people are really breeding to make money, then not declaring this money then it can be classed as benefit fraud or income tax evasion.

When you start to question what others do even if you don't agree, and then remove there right to do it :( it starts a very slippery slope which leads to all sorts of things :(

Even if they were doing nothing illegal, it might stop and make them think!

This is a very slippery slope :( what if someone removed your right to freedom of speech

Don't quite follow.....?????

good point Angie - a friend of mine works for the benefits agency on the south coast and we were in a pub in London one Christmas and a friend of a friend of a friend was telling us all about his benefit situation - needless to say a couple of weeks later he'd decided to go straight!  You only need the full name I believe

what we really need is a vigilante group to tackle things like this. I emailed a couple of people who were selling kittens in Birimingham at 6 weeks - a gentle email about waiting till they are 8 weeks , and one of the emails i got back said they though I had a cheek, that they'd had loads of experience with kittens >:( . I did email them back and said that I was just trying to inform and I was glad that they knew what they were doing and was mum now getting spayed (no reply to that).
Anyway, my point is I'm sure some of these people are making money on the side and claiming benefits. Wouldn't it be great to be able to monitor one or two of them and if they repeatedly have kittens shopping them to the benefits people/ income tax people.
Even if they were doing nothing illegal, it might stop and make them think!

Michelle I think what I was trying to get across is that sometimes things are bad ,but not bad enough for RSPCA intervention, you are then left agonising over your decision and keep having visions of those poor kittens. I have been in a very bad situation today and have been forced to leave 9 newborn kittens where they are as well as their feral mothers. Not always easy to work magic and sometimes it eats away at you trying to work out a way.
Good Luck

Can I ask what you intend to do if all is not nice ? Its very painful seeing kittens/cats/animals in a bad environment and not having the power to take them out of it.

Good question T,

If the kiitens/cats were not in good condition or bad health and she agreed to could do something to help then great (even if it meant bringing them back her with me until somewhere could be found for them) if not i would ring rspca once i had left the property.
I am sure you have been it that position...is there any advice you could offer me hun ?

The advert is Bromley so i have asked to go and see the kittens (havent said i actually wanted one)
Hopefully i will be meet with a "nice" person and i can offer some advice re neutering etc.
Also worried as advert says "just given birth" and then says ready end of May !
Will also make a few calls and see who has spaces around incase any of the cats need rehoming !! (seeing as its sounds like there is a housefull)

Who knows what i will be walking into.....but it can't be any worse than that flat in east london i went to for that pregnant cat !
You know thinking back i must have been mad putting myself in that dangerous situation

How much!!!!!!!! Sheesh ... I paid that much for 2 pedigrees with full GCCF registration and papers, fully vaccinated etc and both from a long line of Champions and Grand champions .... I know it was 6 years ago and prices will have gone up but surely no-one would pay that price for "moggies" (no offence to the moggies out there ;) ).

In ancient times cats were worshiped as gods; they have not forgotten this.

I have sent them an email and asked to go and see the kittens as i got a feeling there are going to be sold off MUCH too early ! Mind you at £150 and £200 a kitten she might get stuck with them !!!!

one of my cats have just given birth to 6 adorable kittens .

i already have too many cats and kittens so i have decided to sell them

the 4 black and white ones will be £150 each .
the other two , £200 .

they will all be ready by the end of may .
and will be wormed .
