Just a thought but along with putting the poop in the tray, it might also be worth considering restricting them to one room for a while and see if this helps Yoda to establish using the tray(s) for poos.

Thanks, that's what I have done.  He held on yesterday til nearly midnight, I was in with them and he was circling me and purring away but he clearly needed to go.  He sniffed at the trays a few times so I turned my back and he performed!! ;D Yay - clever boy.  Am doing the same thing with him today though to be sure.  His sister is fine though, no problems there.

What litter do you have? Maybe he would like extra fine litter, tesco sell one called sophisticat. A spinkle of earth may help him twig it, some adult cats can be awkward when they have been going outside for some time.

Hi, I have got 2 open trays but whwen I thought they may be holding it in, I went to get a covered one.

So far it has been once behind the washer and once nehind the tv so he has no preference yet.  When he did it behind the tv earlier I was actually watching it so I am not 100% sure that it is a privacy issue!  They are still finding their feet though so to speak so anything can happen yet.

They look gorgeous bless them  :Luv:  :Luv:  Mark's idea is a good one but as Gillian said, it may just be nerves and a case of finding their feet.  If he continues pooing behind the TV, it might be worth putting a litter tray behind there as well for the time being.  Have you got covered litter trays or the open ones?  Some cats prefer to use the covered ones so maybe this could be the problem.

I have got 3 trays for the 2 cats.  I haven't got a diffuser but will get one to try out.

They seem pretty settled today, they have the run of downstairs at the moment and the door is kept open to the sunroom where their tree and baskets are.  They come through to the livingroom to have a roll on the rug and then saunter back into the sunroom for a snooze when they realise not much is going on!

I expect he is still a bit nervous what with being in a new home and everything. How many trays have you got? sounds like you've got more than one which is good, but maybe try having another tray in a different location, and/or some different litter. Have you got some Feliway diffusers plugged in to help them settle? if not, that might be another thing to try.

You could try putting the poo in the tray and showing him (let him have a sniff  ) he might get the idea then.

Mmmm - can't wait to do that!  :evillaugh:

I suppose it makes sense though, it's not like he's a kitten just starting out though, he is 3.  I will email his previous owner I think and double check with her whether he has cetain poopy preferences - lol.

Thanks
Lisa

Hi, anyone got some advice for me please?

Picked up my 2 new buddies on Saturday and they settled in well using litter trays to wee.  Yoda legged it to the kitchen and pooped behind the washingmachine I have cleaned it up and wiped the floor down with washingpowder - well it needed doing anyway!!

Today he disappeared behind the tv and appeared 5 minutes later bringing with him a terrible smell (why does it smell so bad??).  Anything I can do to encourage him to poop in the trays?  Greedy had only wee'd up until this evening and I suspected she would do the same but the good girl has just used the tray  ;D.

What can I do to encourage him to poop in the trays?

Lisa
