if the dog can be trained it can also be trained to be good with cats - although admittedly will need to be kept separate until its obedience levels are better.
I would agree that most dogs if introduced properly will learn to live in a cat household. I know a Co-ordinator we had many tars ago used to adopt ex-racing grey hounds, now I am not saying that if i they saw a cat that was not in his family unit  they  would want to chase it  them but but those in the family unit were fine.

I also wonder about the no-cats provision -

Many rescues state the 'no cats' rule & unfortunately that goes for small pets/caged aswell.   They dont 'think' that homes have more then one kind of pet as most do, many dogs are missing out as most folk will go elsewhere.    Some don't even 'try' to assess the dogs they have

Bit off track here sorry but just wondering what areas these emails come from & is it just dogs  :-:

Just dogs Mags, no specific area, they could be anywhere but a majority are from Ireland though which is understandable.

I also wonder about the no-cats provision - if the dog can be trained it can also be trained to be good with cats - although admittedly will need to be kept separate until its obedience levels are better. Rotties and cats are good companions, as my Shadow boy (who is half rottie) proves daily ... It is all in the training. If the dog knows its place in the household pecking order it will not give cats a hard time at all. But it does take time and patience, so ideally would be going to an experienced dog owner ...

but has obviously lived outside as her housetraining needs some fine tuning!

That comment baffles me, how can a dog learn to be house-trained if it lives outside? Its a bit like saying my cat won't learn to use the litter tray,  when one is not provided.

I hope so too. She sounds a nice dog, if not a bit unruly.

Thanks Dawn,

I currently live in a one bedroomed flat, so it needs to be quite a small dog, good with cats and I'd really like an older, quieter dog. I've never had a dog before, so I would like it to be already trained and well behaved (I know this sounds bad, but I wouldn't want to take on something that I couldn't deal with!)

If anything comes up, feel free to mail me!

I really hope this babe finds somewhere, I think I did have an email about this one.  There seems to be an awful lot of dogs that need sorting lately, the emails are getting more and more  :(

I'm currently looking for a dog, but I have a cat and so don't think that it would be a good idea for this little one.

I get emails about lots of dogs needing homes, if you want I can pass the details onto you if I think there could be anything suitable  :shy:

I'll put some feelers out with friends and good luck with this!

"This dog has until next week to find somewhere to go or she will be put to sleep.

Ellie - Dobermann x Rottie. Approx 10 months old. Very sweet natured girl, but has obviously lived outside as her housetraining needs some fine tuning! Is best as an only dog as he gets jealous if another dog is getting attention. No children unless older teenage children and an experienced Rotti/Dobe owner.
No cats!

I am urgently appealing for a new home/rescue placement for her asap.

Emma"

I'm pretty sure that Ellie is in the Surrey area, but if anyone requires more specific info I can pass on an email address directly to Emma.
