He's a bit better today, thanks, Desley.   I think the antibiotics are kicking in and he even managed his first little purr this morning.  :naughty: right before sneezing again and splattering me with boggies.  :evillaugh:

I have a cunning plan for his future.  :sneaky: His siblings, Emily, Tuppence and Zorro, all went to the same lady. A really dedicated meowmy who has spent a fortune on her new babies.  :briggin: Well, her best friend called me a few weeks later to ask if I had any more as she fell in love with them. I said no at the time, but if she's still interested, Chance could go to her and I expect he can visit and play with his siblings again.  :wow: I'm calling her tonight.  8)

in an ideal world, cats who have had catflu wouldnt be placed with others. Have you tried putting him in a steamy bathroom to help unbung him, or using eucalyptus oil in an oil burner? I think I might have read about Vaporub when I had Blackie, but it is nearly 3 years ago now, so can't quite remember.
Please spay your cat

Gillian, there are so many strains of cat flu. A vacine can't cover them all. Some are truly evil and cause mouth ulcers, heart problems, etc., and in this area of Kent a rather nasty one is around and our vet has had to PTS several cats because of it. If a cat has been vacinnated, although it may not cover that particular strain, it does make recovery easier and harder for the bug to take a hold in the first place. It sounds like Gypsy was lucky she was vaccinated as she may not stood a chance.

Yes I know there are many strains of cat flu, I also know the vaccine doesnt cover them all. Gypsy was so ill I (and the vet) thought we were going to lose her. Sorry, but Gypsy's recovery was NOT easier because she was vaccinated - I mean sitting on the floor after a week of her not eating pleading with her to just eat one mouthful of food, but then having to force feed her, even though she didnt want it, seeing her hardly able to breathe day after day and seeing no change despite antibiotics, seeing her sitting hunched all day in the same position without moving, sitting up all night with her - then after 3 weeks seeing just a glimmer of recovery and probably 2 months before she was fully better - don't call that easy.

I could cry for him.  :'( There's no discharge this evening but he's so bunged up. Just like when a toddler has a heavy head cold - you'd rather have the flu yourself then see them go through it. And it's so sad that he can't purr, even though I can see him trying. The poor mite is so friendly and just wants cuddles and tickles all the time. He's the friendliest 'feral' you ever did see.  :evillaugh:

We have been told by all our vets that cats/kittens with a history of flu, must never live with cats who haven't had flu. Although they recover the symptoms, there is still a chance they can 'shed' the virus and infect other cats. That's what seems to have happened to you, Caroline. We will only rehome fluey kittens if the new owners understand they cannot get another cat from another place. And although they seem to recover, it only takes a sudden change in their lives to cause stress and they break out in symptoms again.  :(

One day, when I am leader of the world, ALL cat owners will be registered, the offer for sale of kittens will be illegal and all kittens won't be rehomed until they are neutered, microchipped and vacc'd.  ;)

I know how bad cat flu is, Simba had it when we got him,he seemed to have it for ages, then a few months later I had all four out of five cats with it, it seemed to last for ever,it so sad to see them not well and you can't blow their nose for them :(

Very sad when they have flu, my vet thinks that Franta had it once and has left him with a bit of eye problems.

Can I just say that cat flu is such a horrible, horrible thing!  >:(

So the next time some  :censored: tells me that can't avoid to vaccinate their pet, I'm going to present them with my fleece, which is soaked in kitten grollies.  :sneaky:

My two, Gypsy and Suzie, WERE vaccinated and both got cat flu - Gypsy so severely in fact it was touch and go with her for a while as she refused to eat, had to force feed in the end - it left her with recurring outbreaks, although they are have got less and less - I got sick of giving her courses of antibitotics, only to find that as soon as we finished the course it would start again. In the end homeopathy was the only thing that really helped her.

Some karvol hung out of reach on a flannel might help him a little.

Ohhh the joys of snotty kittens  :evillaugh:  Mine always decide to have a good sneeze when they are nestled under my chin so I get splattered in the face or my hair gets covered    I hope Chance recovers soon from the snotties, it's horrible with any cat but more so with little ones, hopefully the meds will soon kick in

I have just spent the last hour cuddling little Chance, and he so loves me - nestling into my neck, rubbing against my face.  :briggin: But the poor little soul can't purr!  :'( He is so bunged up that every time he tries, he sneezes instead and I'm covered in smelly, infected mucus.  He is being treated, of course, but as he's had it for so long - probably all his little life - it's going to take a while for his meds to get on top of it.  :(

So the next time some  :censored: tells me that can't avoid to vaccinate their pet, I'm going to present them with my fleece, which is soaked in kitten grollies.  :sneaky:
