Often even if I just nip out for a couple of hours I'll leave the light and the TV on for Tess and Paddy

Dunno if they fight over the remote control.....

In december mine ate most of the food and a number of litter trays had been used and most were not round the door as usual, waiting for me but they did show themselves pretty quick

aww I hope that she's ok! I leave Katie for 24 hours and sometimes a little bit over and her food is only ever nibbled at and the litter can be clean because she's just lazed around all day, not missing me at all!

Ah well, having decided Dinah would be fine, as if on cue she was limping this morning and is quite subdued this evening...

So looks like a vet trip may be in order and husband will be staying put.

Yes Like Bazsmum has already said, I too leave the lobby light on and leave a radio on too if I am away for the night
and always come home to a wonderful greeting

I'm sure she will be fine ... I would probably put down an extra tray litter tray for her just in case she does poo and wee that way she will have enough clean litter to tiddle in.

You will probably find, if she is like every cat I have ever met, she will sleep happily for 23 hours of the 24 you are away but of course as soon as you get home she will have you believe she has been awake and worried sick about being left on her own!

Last year I had to stay at my Mums for a couple of nights. As I could get back daily to do tablets and trays I left the cats at home rather than a cattery. They were fine even over the 24 hour period. In fact Im not convinced they even missed me. They were mouthy when I got in and wanted food and cuddles but I had left them on the bed and they got off the bed when I came back.
Im sure you know her best and if having somone come in and check on her is going to stress her then leaving her is the best idea.

Forgot to say that I have what I call a cat light which is on a timer where the food and water is , so that comes on the same as usuaul and also have bedroom and front room lights coming on a timer while I away. I also leave landing light on too which is part for my neighbour cos she thinks it is welcoming since her husband died.

We dont have radios and stuff on ever so dont leave anything like that.

None of them really like a change in routine, but they tend to cope a lot better than we think they do in the end. Jaffa hates going to the vet and does get quite stressed out about it, but he copes and when he's home he's happy to tuck into a meal and have some cuddles, and before long it's all forgotten.

Think we have got into the habit of thinking about her as a poor little old lady, but like many little old ladies she is actually resourceful and good at coping under that fluffy little exterior.

We will have to make it up to her with chicken livers and lots of brushing....

I'll sleep on it. If she tramples on my head at 5.30am again it might help me make up my mind

I agree that you know her best, but I think she will be ok for 24 hours. You might have to go out of your way to make it up to her afterwards, but I think for 24 hours it will probably be fine.

Good idea Bazsmum about the radio - we did that when we first had her but I'd forgotten about it.

She is nearly 19, her health is fine (she has CRF but is doing really well at the moment on her Fortekor). We've left her overnight once before and she was fine (but yes, she sulked when we came back!) and she is fine when we're out at work, but 24 hours just seems a long time.

I know it's my decision and I felt ok about it until my Mum stuck her oar in! Am in a bit of a tizz at the moment...

You know her best and whether she will cope OK, how old is she?

I leave mine for 24 hrs and am always worried in case a fight will break out and someone will get hurt.

So far they seem to be better than when I am here! But Sasa then punishes me for a while and disappears. Usually they are all fairly near to the door waiting for me when I arrive home and I am so pleased to see them.

Only you can really make that decision cos you know how Dinah is healthwise and how she behaves when you go out normally

Your doing great with the food etc....I would just add to pop a light on and maybe leave the tv or a radio on for background noise!

I've got a bit of a dilemma. Next week I have to go to a funeral and really want my husband to come with me as it's going to be a very hard day (my very best friend's Dad died without any warning - I've know her and him for 34 years...).

Trouble is, it will mean leaving Dinah on her own for about 24 hours. She'll be shut in the house, we'll leave her hot pad on and she will have plenty of food and biscuits...(she can have her daily tablets before we go so she won't miss a dose).

If she thinks we're not in the house at night she trundles round mewing and looking for us. I know I'm probably being soft but because she's a pensioner I feel so mean and don't know if it's fair to leave her. Can't ask anyone to pop in and check on her as she hides under the bed for hours if anyone strange comes to see us.

What would you do?
