Catdecat went to the vets this morning, an hour later than planned cos I took him to the vets just after 9 but they wouldn't take him without a welfare number which CP hadn't given me and they didn't open until 10, so had to go back home and try to get through to them, once I did the girl said they don't even use welfare numbers so she had to ring the vets and sort it out.

But yeah, he's gone. I was quite tearful leaving him there even though I'd only had him since Friday. I could neeever be a fosterer.

Good on you Karen for standing up to your friend on this matter. I know it can be difficult.

He's fine, soo nosey though I've brought some of my cats' toys up for him, he's a cuddly little boy, I could find myself getting attached but I can't. Belle's been doing his usual howling outside my bedroom door and it seems to scare him. My 4 weren't one bit impressed with not being allowed into the bedroom last night.

If people want to adopt one of my cats and they have kids, I do ask them to bring the children along to see how they get on, and more importantly, how the parents are with the children. As they are the next generation, I think it is important to try and get as many animal lovers as possible.

It's fine to have pets with young children providing they are supervised to ensure that the child grows to understand that animals deserve some respect and if they do something they shouldn't (i.e pulling tail/ears) the they should expect retaliation from the pet.

Also children learn alot off their parents in regards to how animals should be treated, it's important for them to set a worthy example.

Aww, fingers crossed for him, and thank god a rescue was able to help, poor little babe. Sadly, stories like this reinforce certain rescue's policies for not rehoming with children under the age of 5. My sister was a nightmare with our childhood cat, but if he retaliated with claws or teeth, he was never told off. And in regards to the kid never being around animals before, they have to start somewhere. I have successfully homed cats with children under teh age of 5.

I've given up telling her what I think to be honest, cos it always ends in a row cos she says I act high and mighty. She does try though. I felt awful cos she has a 7 year old who bawled when I was taking the cat but I think she was fine with him, it was more the 2 year old. The little girl is in my house a lot and is always good with my cats.

Anyway, he seems happy enough, I opened my wardrobe so he could hide in there and he has done, he's used the litter tray and has eaten. My 4 seem none the wiser. I've taken a photo but the cable to connect my phone to the computer has disappeared, so I'll post his pic once I find it.

I think it depends on the cat and the toddler too, my kids have always had pets in the house. I have 2 girls that just turned 3 and they've never done anything to any of the cats.

Well that's one thing my friend does have going for her, Corporal cos she doesn't let the cat outside.

He's here, but very dubious, nothing in the litter tray yet but nothing outside it either. He is a gorgeous lil boy, I would love to keep him cos I've always loved black cats, but I can't. I have to go out to a wedding party now but I'll only be an hour or so, don't want to go so I'm only going to show my face. My 4 didn't even wake up when I brought the carrier in and upstairs, but they're bound to be sniffing at the bedroom door later though. We'll see.

Don't even go there, blackcat cos he doesn't like the kids either. She met him when she was pregnant with her second and he told her at the time he wasn't happy she had children. She's one of these that can't cope without a man though. Silly.

I have to say that if my bf was going to do something to one of my cats, it would be the bf for the scrap-heap - not the cat. If he is prepared to offer violence to the cat, he will, at some stage, be prepared to offer violence to her or the children.

I actually don't agree with this entirely. Me and my siblings were brought up around animals and were taught to respect them from an early age. In my opinion it depends on the toddler and on the cat.

It's one of the worst things when I hear a friend telling me about their cats.

I have a good friend who just got two kittens. They're big kittens now, prob 4 months-ish and she's started letting them out

. The worse thing is this is what her vet recommended

. When she told me i nearly fell off my chair! How can we keep spreading the word when vets contradict us?

I went down the road of "be careful, they may suddenly up and leave for days on end" to try and stop her. Didn't sink in though so her "babies" are probably out increasing the population in the area right now.

I tried *sigh* but now I just grit my teeth.

This is awful, in an ideal world people should at least read up on the care and needs of an animal before getting one, surely she must of realise that it would require neutering etc! Unfortunately the cute cuddly kitten syndrome strikes again.

also very young cats and toddlers are not a good mix for neither the cat or the toddler (i wonder if access to kitten was supervised?)

the poor thing must be traumatised! Keep us posted with his story!

She's not a bad person, believe it or not, she just doesn't have a clue about how much looking after they need etc, and even if she did getting a kitten when she had a 2 year old who has never been around animals before was a stupid idea anyway. The CP lady asked could he have toileting problems as well, but I'm sure it's more a case of being stressed out with her kids, and he probably doesn't get peace to use the tray.

Got my bedroom all set up with the litter tray so I'm gonna go and get him in a minute.

Well my friend rang me and went mad cos I told CP what her boyfriend was gonna do, but it was the truth! Silly cow. She said she was ok to hold on to it until the end of the week.
Next thing the CP lady rang me and said could I go and take the cat now, and keep it until Monday, as my friend had been telling her on the phone that her kids lift it and throw it and she's concerned for it's safety. She was saying sorry she knows she's my friend but she's disgusted with her attitude towards the cat, but I said the same, and have told my friend that as well. They're not toys you can get rid of when you've finished playing with them.

So after dinner I'm going to go down and pick him up, then keep him until Monday. I'm to take him to the vet on Monday morning to be neutered and CP will collect him on Monday. I'm gonna just keep him in my bedroom over the weekend cos I'd really hate for my 4 to be upset by it cos they're so happy and settled here.

CP just this second rang again, she's arranged with the vets to give it a good look over, neutered, wormed etc so I've to take it over at 9 on Monday morning.

I think it might be ok, I just rang cats protection myself and spoke to the nearest branch to us, told them the whole story and the girl said they will take it, only thing is they can't until the end of next week, so she should be ringing my friend as we speak to see if she's ok to hold onto him until then, which I think she will cos she said herself she doesn't want her boyfriend to do that. If worst comes to worst I can take him until then, I'll just have to set him up in my bedroom or somewhere separate from my four.

He does use the litter tray, Yvonne, I think it's more stress than anything with him as she has a 2 year old that's never been around animals before.

A friend of mine has a kitten, about 6 months old, pure black and she's decided she doesn't want it anymore. It's been peeing around the house and scratching furniture and she says she's fed up with it. I've been trying to help her, and got her a neutering voucher but she still doesn't want it. The voucher just came yesterday so he hasn't been neutered yet.

Earlier today she texted and told me her boyfriend's gonna take it and dump it somewhere tonight, I went down and she rang round all the animal sanctuaries, and cats protection but they're all full and wont take another. I'm shaking here, I dunno what else to do. I would take it but I really can't afford another cat with the four I have, and have no room and time for another.

I'm so

angry with her cos I knew this would happen, she wouldn't want the cat once it had grown up a bit. Does anyone know what I could do? Or say to the sanctuaries that might make them reconsider taking another, I've asked everybody I can think of but nobody wants it.
