I think you are right to be cautious, and see what happens.

I'm being very cautious though. My phone's not stopped ringing today, and I think if I jump back in I'll be back to square one. This seems to have resolved far too quickly for my liking...

I'm still going to leave it settling and decide by the next meeting. That gives me around a month to decide what's best.

Great news. It's a shame that these things get so political when all we want to do is help cats  :(

I heard of another CP branch recently that has completely closed down at the moment as the co-ordinators resigned  :(
(I only know as head office sent me a letter by mistake  )

I remember the issue PB was talking about and it wasn't pleasant  :tired:

I think it was a case of someone wanting to tell everyone how wonderful they were with all their charitable work but without actually getting up off their backside to do anything  :tired:

I believe I am not interested to know whether Vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesn't. To know that the results are profitable to the race would not remove my hostility to it.  Mark Twain

Thanks for all the support. Just had a lovely phonecall from the coordinator apologising to me. She hasn't really got anything to apologise for but I'm chuffed to bits that she's bothered. Even she said to let the dust settle for the time being and then they'll welcome me back if I want to.

She also thanked me for all the successful homings from Purrs and CatChat so I'll pass that on to everyone!

Much happier now!

I am so sory Amy but have found CP so clicky, maybe for the reasons that have been stated.

I really wanted to help them when I came here but gave up asking them in the end, and they really didnt want to know me after I took Sasa, reckon they were scared they were gonna get her back again.

Sorry to hear things haven't worked out, as others have said unfortunately it happens regularly with volunteers groups!

Keep looking and you'll find a fab group of people to get involved with and keep helping the cats who need you

So sorry this has happened but it happened to us after 10 years of fostering and stuff we moved and as incommers were not welcome in the new area - we also have to many cats and they are a health risk to fosters so we now support our old branch and gave them £2000 plus through charity matching and spent a lot of time up and down the road - 300 miles a trip but they  are glad we stayed in touch!

So its not a nice thing but at least stay in touch with the branch they will need help long after the other folks have gone

I support the branch here by going to their fetes and stuff but miss having fosters - hubbies work pay by the hour for that to!

I am sorry you feel the way you do sending big hugs your way. I hope you find another group to help soon. I love the charity I help out and get on so so well with the main people they are great friends and give me such great support I hope you find that soon too.

yep it's true. Voluntary groups, whatever their purpose seem to lose all the skills they use in the workplace to keep things running smoothly (even though you despise that cow over near the photocopier) and feel they are able to play all sorts of power games. They rarely last longterm and it is always useful to keep an eye on progress so you know when to slip back into harness. For some people, their voluntary work is what gives them their self-esteem and status, and this becomse more important to them than the work itself. They soon get turfed by the people who are actually keen on getting the job done ...

It does happen with CP sometimes. We went through an awful phase last year where we got stuck with a coordinator who was totally invisible and only able to be phoned during one 2 hour slot a week.  :tired: But she was best pals with someone, who was best pals, etc., etc... The good news is she's gone now and her replacement actually does what she signed up for.  :)

I'd say don't lose touch as commitees are fluid things and give it six months and the whole dynamic change. Then you'll probably be able to get the work you want to do achieved.  :sneaky:

Ah the dreaded fall out - happens all the time with the Coventry CP lot :(
If you're near Derby itself I'm sure the St Francis Hospice would always welcome some help of some sort - shame you're not near Coventry we are still desperately short of fosterers/helpers

I am so sad

Hi everyone. I'm after yet more hugs today.

I can't really say why but I am no longer a volunteer at my local CP. I got caught up in a little bit of low-level politics and didn't want to take sides.

It was a really hard decision to make and I'm devastated. I feel as if all the love and support I've offered have been thrown back at me.

Please know that this is not CP's fault and they are still a fabulous charity who I will support in every way I can. All the people I've worked with have been wonderful and what of seen of the charity has been brilliant too.

I'll be looking for a new bunch to help as soon as the air has cleared so please PM me if anyone needs a volunteer in Derbyshire/Notts.
