I really couldnt say how much natural yoghurt tbh, sounds fairly reasonable what your giving him though.

another thing i just thought was something my boss used to say was excellent for stomach/digestive type conditions was rice water - as in boil rice then use the cooled water , now i really have to add i heard this advice being told to dog owners more than anything but if it was something that a cat would take it certainly may be worth remembering.  I cant remember exactly what components its meant to contain but the boiling breaks something down and supposed to have beneficial effects.  Well i always think these things can be worth a try since they dont contain drugs iykwim.

Well, Whiskas and JWB have given him normal poo's, so off to buy some Whiskas tomorrow, hopefully that wont put too many people off. Not even going to attempt a/d again, and he will have to have chicken for his X MAs dinner

IT is - how much natural yoghurt should I be giving him Lynn? I have been giving about 1.5 tablespoons, and he eats most of it. I shall try that, I just wish I could remember what the wet food he initially had was (althoug only a choice of 3) - shame he didn't seem to tolerate a/d.

very strange.

the repeated worming certainly is a good idea.

Desley write down a list of everything he's had so far in 2 colums - good/bad to keep yourself right and seeing it on paper may help see a bigger picture.

Well, he was fine on JWB, Whiskas and Cat milk when he first came, so I knew I was safe in giving those to him, and he had the probiotic natural yoghurt to help settle things. I wanted to find the wet food he was initially fine on to try and stop him pinching the other cats wet, as I suspect that is the problem. I am also wondering if it is the fishy wet foods he can't tolerate, although the vets kindly gave me some samples of JWB and he has been fine having the fishy one mixed with the others.

not sure I would be offering such a wide variety of food to a cat who has an upset tum. Try stabilising him for at least a week on one sort of food, then slooooowly introduce variety, one food type at time...

REally confused with this cat now -  he had dry food and cat milk for his brekkie yesterday and was fine, so gave him some Whiskas wet last night (as I am sure that was what he could tolerate when he first came), with some natural yoghurt and later some dry and he was fine all night, yet this morning he is only semi solid, I wonder if he got into Zia's food overnight. I feel awful giviing him only dry, partly cos of his age, and partly cos he wolfs the wet so quickly, he obviously enjoys it.

Hmm, his runny bum is back, not sure if it is the normal cat food I gave him today, or the fact he has managed to pinch Tiger's raw chicken wings. So back on Sensitivity food, and a chat with the rescue when I am there tomorrow. He has been here a month now, so might see if it is worth de-worming him again.

i meant once a day!!
I got worried this morning as I hadn't seen any poos since Wed, so gave him normal cat food, and he went about an hour later, relatively normal, so I am going to keep him on cat food in jelly and JWB dry, with cat milk to help build him up, not going to risk a/d again!!

I am sure he will be, he seems fine in himself, and isn't dehydrated. Hope I can find a home for him who will be willing to accept he can only eat certain food!! I think he needs to be an only cat as well, which will be a big help, I am paranoid about him eating someone elses food and making himself bad (Which actually could have happened one night this week!!)

I just see it recommended a lot and people havent necessarily been to a vet first, and that makes me iffy.

Completely agree, vets would always be the first port of call.  I personally haven't seen it recommended prior to a vet visit but may well have missed something.

Anyway, back to business - get well soon Rolo!

I am dubious about Lacto B to be honest Helen, I think it is being offered a lot on here for cats with upset tums, and am unsure whether it should be, or whether we should really be recommending vets (in this case, I know it is the food I gave him).

I haven't used it myself but I know there's several people on here who have had great success with it after their vet has ruled out any underlying illnesses.  I don't think anyone has recomended it to those who haven't already soght vets treatment, it's often being recommended as a 'last resort' in conjuction with bland food.

I think Lacto B is essentially the same as natural yoghurt - a probiotic - but I'd guess easier to get cats to eat as it's a powdered so can just be sprinkled on their normal food.

Lynn, the RC in gravy is actually duck and rice, rather than chicken and rice - I know he is fine on the chicken and rice, as I gave him that after his AB's, and it sorted him with just one pouch. So need to ring the vets and check they have more in, and pop up tonight. Will also go to local shop for natural yoghurt. He is on small rations at the moment, whcih he doesnt like, he has had a chicken breast and some JWB and hasn't been to the loo yet, which for him is a good sign, he went during hte day yesterday, but up to this week had only been goign once a week. Dont think I will try a/d on him again. I know he can tolerate normal cat food in jelly though, as that is what he was on when he first came (think he has been here a month today). Makes me wonder if that is why he is so thin, I know the lady was giving him cow's milk, and the day I picked him up, she gave me the rest of the salmon she had given him that day!! I am dubious about Lacto B to be honest Helen, I think it is being offered a lot on here for cats with upset tums, and am unsure whether it should be, or whether we should really be recommending vets (in this case, I know it is the food I gave him).

Maybe its the chicken desley ?  some cats are sensitive to it !

You could try turkey instead if you want to home cook, you get those big turkey drumsticks cheap.

Poor rolo he doesnt need the runs when you are trying to build him up, what about getting him some proper natural yoghurt ?

If he's really under weight/poor muscle you could speak to the vet about him maybe trying nandoral tablets or the injections, thats anabolic steriod (not the same as "normal" steriods) and was used not too uncommonly in crf cats who as you know struggle to keep any muscle mass and weight.

He must have a very sensitive tummy, a few thigns have caused him issues. He can't tolerate food in gravy, the antibiotics made it iffy (but then that wasn't too surprising), then I gave him some different biscuits at weekend, he seemed fine on them (they were mixed with his normal ones), but then I gave him some chicken HiLife for his Sun tea (they get special tea's on Sun) and that set him off, a/d seemed to make things slightly worse, so I put him on RC sensitivity, but only twigged today after 2 pouches (last week 1 made things better) that it is in gravy, so that must be why there is no improvement!! He has had all his food taken off him now, and I shall cook him some chicken later (although prob not give him much tonight), and make sure he can't get at Zia's or Tiger's food. He is fine on JWB dry, and was fine on Whiskas cat food when he first came, till I gave him some in gravy. Goign to be fun when it comes to rehoming him.
